|
|
When I had my E-2 visa put in my passport, it used up the last available page. I now need to get a new passport.
The thing is, I haven't been for my ARC yet, and won't be going for about 2 weeks. The Cdn embassy is open on Monday (the holiday this weekend) and it's pretty much the ONLY time I can go for my new passport.
Will it be a problem to get an ARC issued when my visa is in an old, cancelled passport, if I present them with the new one also?
I know you can get a new passport AFTER your ARC is issued, but has any one ever done it BEFORE getting the ARC?
Thanks! |

No, they will only acecpt them by mail if you have a guarantor.
And despite having been in Korea for umpteen years (or so it feels) I still can't find a doc/lawyer/engineer/accountant that I've known for 2 years or more..... |

I dont see why that would present a problem. There'll likely be an extra form to fill out about transferring the E2 data to the new passport (a different stamp in your new passport that will reference your old passport number). Might cost 10,000 won, I forget, but its something you have to do anyway.
(Anyone getting a new passport should take note of that -- theres a fairly short time limit.)
But. Are you sure the embassy will be open monday? I strongly doubt it. |

Do you mean an extra form to fill out at the embassy, or at Immigration when I go for my ARC?

I don't understand that part - a short time limit for what?

Yes, they are open on *most* Korean holidays, they only close on Chuseok, Lunar New Year and Liberation Day (Aug 15); as well as all Canadian stat holidays. |

1. Are you sure you need a new passport? You can get pages added to your present one. (If you have already added pages, then you need to get a new one.)
2. If you do have to get a new passport, you will have a new passport number. Your ARC will have to be changed. It's best to get the new passport first if possible. It will save you a couple of trips to Immigration. |

Nope. Canadian passports can't have pages added in. So yes, I am 100 % sure that I, sadly, need a new one. And it don't come cheap. At least this time I have the option of a 48 page passport, which I didn't have when I got my old one a few years ago.

Cool - that's what I needed to know. Becuase my only real option IS to get the new pport first, I was just worried that it would make some huge nightmare when I went into Immi with 2 passports.
Thanks. |

I meant that when anyone gets a new passport, mid-contract, immigration expects a visit (within a couple weeks) to transfer visa information. The embassy doesnt inform about this, but failure to do so results in potential fines. (But if you smile up the clerk, penalties can be waived.) Its a simple form.
Your situation is a little different. You'll be going in with a valid E2 in an expired passport & a new passport & a legitimate request for an ARC. No worries. My experience is if everything is honest & in order, they'll be pleasant & helpful walking you through the procedures. |

Can anyone lie? Can a Korean friend ask a "respectable" highly employed person to vouch for you perhaps? Because this guarantor thing is a joke anyway. (I wonder if a visit to a doctor and merely asking him/her might work.)
"Oh but I did not first meet you over 2 years ago!" Funny, isn't it?

By the way, why not get the ARC first? (I guess you have your reasons, or else you wouldn't be asking ) |
