I am flying from Thailand to Seoul next month with Thai airways and have a single ticket and a UK passport.

I spoke to the Embassy in London and they said that I can tell immigration that I will be flying on to Japan to get my work visa after getting a job.

Should I have any trouble with immigration and am I likely to have any trouble with the airline not letting me on without a visa?

Many thanks

A

In theory, you should have an onward or return ticket, but nobody in my experience (probably 1,000 arrivals over nearly 7 years) has ever been asked.

That's not to say you would not be te first.

As Wanja said, you "could get asked" and as he said "it is very unlikely".

Having said that the one thing I would do would be to contact the airline and ensure they will let you on the plane without an onward ticket.

It is the airline that is "on the hook" if you were rejected so some airlines will reject you if you don't have an onward ticket. (and then only sometimes depending on the counter person)

Judging from my experience with asian airlines I doubt this is the case, but the stupid, ridiculous, annoying, evil, Air Canada can really be a pain the ass if you are flying from Canada to Korea.
