Its not that i don't want to help her write her letters. She can do it just fine in front of her mother. Its the fact that she rather peel her crayon and eat glue then fly through her book work at the last minute. Then its my fault that she doesn't care to do it right. And its really not a concern of mine because i'm sure she's going to have better hand writing than me anyways Rolling Eyes Laughing

I think you really have to reevaluate you're position as an employee. You're legal and like teaching kindie. Do you have any idea how hard it would be right now for an employer to replace you? You're a very valuable commodity, and you have to think of yourself as such. DON'T SWEAT IT! Just be open and honest and if you start getting BS just walk out of the meeting and say you have better things to do.

This is the key piece of information that you need to tell the mother (politely and maybe with some humor). I hope that is what you did in the meeting today.

Agree with the mother. Tell her you would like her daughter to write out the alphabet 5 times every night for a week....if the mother could check it then you would check it the next day too.

You could point out that many people have trouble with g's, p's, 9's and any others you can think of.

Agreed. Honestly, use this constuctively. If you think you need "X" amount of time in class to teach writing, get the boss to agree to it in the meeting.

Um.. otherwise, if you're not really interested in teaching her kid to write... why are you there? (honest question, no trolling)

Actually, using a native speaker to correct writing mistakes is a serious waste of a native speaker teacher! Any Korean English teacher (in fact, pretty much any Korean over 10 years old and under 45) knows how to write English properly...

From what I've seen, Korean teachers use an odd manuscript style. They don't drop the descenders on small letters like 'g' and 'p'.

OP- Correcting workbooks during class time can be used as an opportunity for individual instruction.

Well tomorrow will be my first parent complaint in person. The mother of one of my 6 year olds is comming into school to have a meeting with the supervisor about the quality of her daughter's workbook. She's upset because I didn't correct her daughter's work during class. I find it hard to get the children to complete the amount of book work in class, nevermind doing it right. I guess her G's look like 6's.....and I must have not shown her how to write them right, even though there is a "G" on the page right in front of her.
So I guess my question would be: "what would be the right way to respond to being blamed for a 6 year old's incapablity or interest in doing her work book correctly?" My first response and rational in thinking was "well, did she talk to her daughter about her efforts in class?" but I forgot.....its still my fault...or we wouldn't be having this conversation.

thanks for any suggestions. Wink And for those who feel the itch to criticize my english writing skills...please refer to my last post on "being scolded" Rolling Eyes

So how did the meeting go? We're waiting to hear the outcome!! Wink

sure . you know i have no problem doing that and i do do it all the time especially when it comes to reconizing phonics. but I do teach kindergarden and sometimes the babysitting duties take up so much time that if i really corrected everything then the class would definalty be over its time periode. and my classes are back to back so there's no breathin room.
so i guess i didn't have to be present for the meeting. Very Happy They wanted me to go on the field trip. However, i did discuss with my supervisor about giving the kids a writing exercise every class, other than the work book. yet agian more work for the poor little dudes when they could be having fun.
I'll find out on tuesday how the meeting actually went. but i'm really impressed with the way my supervisor approached me about the situation. she's definatly more causious about her tone now. (i'm saying this before i see her on tuesday, we'll see) However she seems to be convinced by a 3 year old that i didn't play "if your happy and u know it" two days in a row Confused Laughing ahhh the saga continues

How can you stand your job? I couldn't hack kindy for more than 35 minutes three times a week. If I had to do what you do, I would probably have done an apartment jump.

Honestly, how and where do you find the constant patience?

patience? umm.....not until i have my PMS week do i recognize the amount of patience i have the other 3 weeks.. Laughing
But I really enjoy the presence of kids. I think thats what it is. Their lack of inhabition can be so frustrating but yet i love being surrounded by their free spirits and positive energy. When I was back home I used to borrow kids all the time and take them out. Take them out of their environment and give them a chance to have a positive interaction with an adult. Kinda like a private social worker now that i think about it...lol
I find this point in my life very amusing...i never ever thought i'd be doing this. Especially since i'm such a control freak who hates noise. Laughing
