You're just in time for monsoon and tourist season.
Look forward to 4 months of torential downpours and hordes of couples dressed in matching clothes.

Monsoon season will kick off in a couple of weeks(actually next weekend may be the start according to Korean forecasts) and will last until early July.... it does rain quite a lot, maybe 300 mm in 20 or so days.
Then as someone stated it is tourist season once the monsoon is finished. Late July will be the peak time for this and there are quite a few people....
In saying that however, I went in late July for a week both times I have been there and I didn't find it overly crowded at all, actually compared to mainland Korea it was quite nice. i kept actually looking for all the hordes of people I was warned about but I never had a problem...
We hired a car and just drove up and around the island at our own pace....both time were great times. |

I spent a long weekend in Jeju a while back and I thought it was pretty cool. I especially liked the women who dive for shellfish with the goldfish bowls on their heads. |

It's a pretty friendly place with cleaner air than the cities on the mainland. Where are you going to be working? |

If you want to know about Jeju it would well serve you to click on my link below- I just returned from a Crusade in the USA (well a vacation) and am up late with Jet Lag. I expect you to side with me: the Noble Toad Tory side. A few locals here still do not recognize me as there New English Prince and Lord Master, but eventually I will pacify them with my superior American Culture and Language. The Movie Houses, McDonalds, KFC, and Baskin Robbins seem to be bringing them about- but hopefully the later will not have an enlargening effect on the country maids I entertain. The local spot for foreign freaks is undoubtedly The Blue Aguave a very cool bar [Yet, you'd be pressed to find me there as I hate most all bars except for a rare frivolous occasion] There is the Yahoo groups site rhymeswithjeju too. Now that I've disclosed these two secretes you must in turn buy me a Super Fat Size Meal at McDonalds PM me when you want to meet afterwards we can wander around Jeju city and be pointed at by all the civilians who side with Bonny Prince Charlie.
Two small subjects under the Jeju Princes Peerless Arms' Protection. |

I just got back from a long weekend out there, and was enraptured by the flora and fauna. The place just feels like one enormous park.
I spent one night in Jeju City, where we drank in some very friendly watering holes.
We wanted to go to a night club, and asked a waiter to phone us a taxi. He agreed, saying the club wouldn't close until 6, but a few minutes later called it off... my Korean is rudimentary but it sounded like he was saying "No foreigners." We were a group of four white women and one black man. Did I misunderstand? |

Jeju island is awesome. My boyfriend and I teach near Seoul, and while we were there we didn't want to leave. There is much less pollution than the mainland, the ocean is gorgeous, lots of waterfalls, and beautiful scenery. You are so lucky. We wish now we would have taken a contract there. Make sure you go to Udo island. It is also awesome! |

Jeju-do People and People Who Have Visited Jeju-do: I may be coming there for four days or so in late July with a friend when I get my vacation. Just tossing the idea around. What can one expect to pay for plane tickets from Seoul to Jeju-do in late July? Is it better to get a package deal? Are there cheap places, like love motels, available all over the island? Can one decide at the last minute to go and ship out the next weekend? Any suggestions, wise ones? |

From my experience ( I went to Jeju-do 3 times! ) you have to reserve your plane tickets in advance. They usually sell out months in advance. However, you can always take a ferry from Mokpo---yes,you can buy tickets on the spot on the actual day of your departure by boat. From what I remember, there are 2 departures:at 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. You can pay ahead of time through the bank, too! |
