My director is trying to talk me out of health insurance....
I know he will organise it if I really want it, but he also said no other foreign techers have bothered.

What do you think? Did you get insurance? Was it worth it?

Get it, otherwise you are breaking the law. He will probably know of a doctor who will write precriptions for you and tell him every detail of the visit. Get it ASAP because you are going to have to pay from the day you got your ARC.

Agree. Get it. It usually only covers prescriptions and doctor visits, but get it anyway.

Doctors that are covered by insurance are cheap- I've never payed more than 10,000W for a visit, and that included an x-ray.

Your best bet for getting long term prescriptions filled is to get some info from your doc at home *(typed if possible) and bring it to a doc here.

Insurance is insurance against major financial loss in case of an accident or major illness. Its cost is minimal. The benefits are great if you happen to need it in the next year. With insurance, you will get significant discounts on medical tests. W100,000 per test mounts up fast.

Are you really going to miss W35,000 a month? No.

Do you think that the health insurance would cover prescription medication?

I don't know. What I do know is they're dirt cheap in Korea anyway. The whole world pays a hell of a lot less than Americans do for medicine.

Doctors not covered by insurance are cheap. The most I paid was around 10,000 as well. No x-ray though.

Seriously? I never had health insurance while I was in Korea.

Nevertheless, I think you should get it. Never know what might happen. I'm a prime example: got diagnosed with cancer at the ripe old age of 26. If I hadn't had insurance, I'd now be a quarter million bucks in debt.
