|
|
OK so I've been here 3 weeks now and eaten out lots with various people.
Now I read that takeaway is pretty cheap in Korea and I just got my mobile phone so I'd like to venture into the world of fine dining delivered to my door.
Can people a. tell me where i'd go for takeaway (restaurants ?)
b. good things to order (i'm a meat lover who is not good with hot food)
c. If neone is in Incheon and knows some good numbers for take out feel free to inform me. I live in Namgu 5 mins from Inha University by car.
Thanks guys

Hello, Blunder1983!
If a restaurant delivers, they will most likely have these words on the window:
ż
That means "fast delivery."
If you want to know if an item is hot and spicy, ask, "ʽϱ?"
If you are ordering in person, and you're not sure they understand, wave your hand in front of your mouth.
The first order is always the hardest one.
The second time you call, they will remember who you are, where you live, and what you want.

You need to know your home address, including apartment building name.
Just tell them what you want, they will understand you want it delivered.
As far as where to order from, you mean your apartment door isn't inundated with advertisements every day? Oh, you are so lucky. |

If you have only been here 3 weeks, you may not want to deal with the phone the first time you order. A simple solution is to draw a map to your home with the address written in and your name. Leave it at the restaurants where you want to order.
The next time you feel the munchies coming on, call in. Say your name and then give your order. This worked for me.
I think all pizza places deliver; probably all chicken places (my favorite is BBQ Chicken Family Restaurant); and all Chinese restaurants. Any place that has a scooter parked out front. With the rainy season coming up, you'll be glad to have a place deliver. Just remember to put the returnable stuff outside your door.
Enjoy! |

Call the restaurant.
Say:
Itaewon 2 (ee) dong, 555-4 (oh baek oh ship oh dashee sa). 201 ho.
(Dong name is first, then number of your house... then number or floor of your unit. if you live on the 2nd floor and it's only you, you say 201) if you live in an apt building say 205 (ee-baek-oh) dong, 301 (sam-baek-il) ho. That means you say bldg number 205, then apt. number 301).
¿2 555-4, 201ȣ / 205, 301ȣ
Then say:
Kalguksu 2 gae ju-say-yo. (give me two knife cut noodles).
Į 2 ּ.
They MIGHT want to know your phone number if it's a pizza place.
It is not impolite to just call up and say your address and your order, without any small talk. You don't need to tell them "I live next to MMMM" because they have a very detailed map of the neighborhood that shows exact bldg numbers and can find you in a jiff. |

Not knowing if the OP can read Korean, I was just trying to make the counting word Romanized in a way that would make his/her pronunciation reasonably close. I thought of gey and gay.... but gye? I find gye just confuses people... anyway, gae works I think. |

It was just the 2 = Two = Too/Doo that I got a kick out of. I never thought of it that way but what a neat way to remember how to ask for a pair of something. |

My ex-g/friend used to order from this one restaurant all the time. Finally, I got around to doing it myself. I guess the delivery guy had informed the others about me because as soon as I said what I wanted, the lady told me where I lived. Sure made it easy to order. |
