I haven't been to Itaewon in almost two years, and I'm wondering what people's impressions are of Itaewon nowadays. |

Slowly moving up market- some great restaurants and things have come in, but it will still be a while before you could call it gentrified. |

i think that if you live in itaewon, then it's awesome, but if you don't it sucks. |

I've noticed that some of the bars with "juicy girls" and hookers are now regular bars.
Example: The bar across the street from 7-11 always had women outside asking male who walked past them if they wanted to "talk".
Now, the women are gone, the windows are open, and the atmosphere is very nice. |

I DO live in itaewon and have been going there since 1997 (Which I know people would say, "doesn't say much about you"....well...whatever)
Then: A party that never ends....You go there after work, stay there and party, go home to shower then to go to work and after work do the same thing over again.
Now: Almost a pure tourist trap and hideout of the illegal factory workers. The weeks are pretty much dead, except on the nights before a holiday. Last weekend was hopping!!!! I didn't see that many people since before the Iraq invasion.
Thats another thing. Itaewon has depended so much on the military community for so long that it has been slow to cope with the transition. I don't have the slightest as to what it would be like once the base starts relocating outside starting next year. |

Itaewon in a nutshell ...
Then: Full of GIs and western English teachers getting pissed and making arses of themselves. People on sidewalks trying to flog cheap crap.

Nuff said. Go to Hyewha or something. |

I believe Luke and Obi-wan only met Chewbacca in that bar, made the deal with Chewy and then went somewhere else to meet Han Solo. Am I wrong? |

It is so funny to see that as soon as Anakin walks into a room, the topic just spiralled downhill from there.
If you really want to know how Itaewon is;
1. Try to find the posts about "No Nigerians signs"
2. Try to find the posts about the Hellios fight about a year ago.
Those are kind of a good indicator of how things are in Itaewon. |

oh yeah, once you read a confused account about something that happened two years ago you'll get a real handle on things. |

quality of resturants has gone up considerbly in recent years. not sure about the bars since I only frequent Hollywood, 3 Alley and sometimes Rocky Mountain.
Quality and variety of stuff sold has gone downhill, used to be able to get decent clothes. Now its all hip-hop stuff with some rare exceptions and the Korean sovineer stuff |
