Unless your school provided place is new, odds are the previous teacher left stuff. Some helpful (like a coffee maker and a stack of 500 yen coins ... very handy for any future visit to Japan ... thanks for the stack of $5 coins!), some not so (like a collection of ratty boxer shorts I found in the drawer of my TV stand).

What you luck into?

I remember one poster had found a vibrator or dildo in their apartment. I don't recall a report on whether it fell under the treasure or trash category though.

(our place was empty...nothing to report)

At my last place in Incheon ... a stack of hard-core Dutch porno mags, complete with animal bestiality, hidden in the back of the dresser. And the previous teacher was married.

Not my thing, so I passed them off to a Korean co-worker. (male)

Can you buy such toys in Korea? I thought I saw on a web page that they're illegal, under some law to protect the minds of innocent youth.

If they're illegal, they're not unavailable, judging by some of the love motel vending machines I've seen.

I don't know if it was the previous teacher but whoever lived in my apartment before me was a slob. There was a large scorch mark on the wall of the kitchen and the bathroom was covered in black mold, including the inside of the medicine cabinet and the ENTIRE toilet (including in the water).

My first job....I got a pretty cool house to myself out in the country. The two male teachers who lived there before me were actually a gay couple(really nice guys from Australia).
They left tons of nail polish behind...and great colors!!
Oh, and lots of Vegemite Wink .

A mosquito net in perfect condition left in my appt when I moved in, was undoubtedly the most useful thing I "inherited".

Harry Potter Books One through four. The 4th one was hard cover. I never would have read the books if they hadn't been left there. There were a few other books as well. It helped made up for the fact that the previous guy left the place a complete mess.

My first apartment: a tin of opened tuna which had been left in the unplugged fridge for a month. Not pleasant.

Framed portrait of Kim Il Sung on the wall. Neighborhood map with penciled-in lines and angles (trajectories?) and some Korean words. Metal wastebasket full of paper ashes. Three shell casings from high-powered rifle. Lenscaps from a pair of "Chollima" brand binoculars. Ashtray, full of "Grass and Bark" brand cigarettes. 1 pair latex gloves, inside out.

A humidifier, which came into great use when I had a dry sinus infection.

Ah man that's one thing I wish someone left. There are a couple weeks during the winter when I think one would come in handy. But I don't want to spend 70,000 on something I might only use for 2 months in 2 years.
