Can anyone explain why taxi drivers do this?

I mean, you're paying them! Right? The meter is running. Why worry about which direction to go?

Driver's licence ajosshi (Perhaps the source of all our exasperations.): I will not give this person a driver's licence today since she can't use her rear-view mirror, park, change lanes w/o incident, drive alone, maintain her speed, or stay in her lane.

This drives me insane- the other week I was in Itaewon- torrential rain, 2 inches of water on the pavement soaking into my socks, I get into a cab and the guy makes me get out because he doesn't want to add an extra 2 mins to the 20 minutes journey by busting a U turn.

Have any girls tried going "Oooooooaaaahaoaoaoappppaaaa!!!??" when they pull this stunt?

"I should stop for a red light, especially when there are pedestrians crossing in the marked crosswalk who have a green "WALK" light."

Today someone tried to pull that one on me in the pouring rain. When he saw me in the crosswalk, he slammed on his brakes. It was great! I was never in any danger, and I'm going to try this on all rainy days. I hope to cause some clueless driver to have an accident. Causing negative consequences for people doing the wrong thing by simply doing the right thing is the best revenge ever.

But this one would cover the diverse multitude of 'traditional' f-ups.
"Before I leave home today, I must insert brain into that flip-top box-shaped protrusion called, in English, a head, and actually use it while on the road".

Don't hold your breath. There will only ever be one option for most of them: "Use the Force".

Speculation and wishing upon a star are exercises in futility.

Excessive use of my horn will only add to the noise pollution problem in this city. Maybe if I lead by example and refrain from honking, others will follow.

It's raining (or snowing) today. I think I'll slow down, just to be on the safe side.

Same thing happened here yesterday. We haven't seen any rain for five months. No more than about 2mm precipitation. ie none.

It pissed down for the first time yesterday. Driving home in it, the radio said there were 15 traffic accidents reported to police in half an hour. Idea Maybe there's a lot of that kind of thing in the 'outside world' too. Shocked My wife's a great driver. Much more in control at the wheel than I've been for a long time. Idea Maybe there's just a higher ratio of thoughtless characters on the roads in Korea (for one reason or another). On the other hand, there's the fact that more people don't *beep* up on the road than do. So there's that too. Exclamation

But hang on... Shocked

Or is it that Koreans are of lesser mental power and lack the required active section of the brain that generates initiative? Confused That would make life too hard. They'd be conquered immediately.

Confused Any real people here who can help me out on this one?

Consider that the guy might actually need to head in a certain direction.

Maybe he's the other end of the city and nearing the end of his long shift. Of course he's going to park on the side of the street facing home!

It makes sense that they'd not want to get too far from base in the first place.

Maybe I should realize that on-coming bicycle is moving much faster than I will be when I pull out.

Maybe I should yield to a biker who is cruising uphill and will have to gain speed again at much more effort than I use with the gas pedal and brake.

Maybe when I let a passenger out I should pull all the way over the curb and signal that I am doing so.

Maybe when I pick up a passenger I should realize that zooming in front of the oncoming bike and then slamming on my brakes to pick up my client/friend is not good.

Maybe these signal things are here for a reason.

Moving slightly towards oncoming bikers instead of coming to a stand-still when merging or turning across traffic makes them nervous.

People on bikes are not all going slow.

People on bikes do not need me to honk at them, since they are not in a car, they can hear my engine (and breath my effing exhaust).

People on bikes are making the world better for me and my children by not polluting, I should THANK THEM.
