any time i try to play a game (not the games located under 'accessories') my monitor shuts off within 1 minute. its goes into this power saving mode. i changed all the properties of the power and monitor settings in the control panel, yet it still shuts off. once it shuts off, the sound goes away and i cant get anything to turn back on. i have to restart the computer. please advise |

Go to start->run-> "dxdiag"
Have you updated your videocard drivers recently?
Those are the two places I'd start... |

Do you know what kind of video card you have?
If not download Belarc advisor. (google it)
Then google the site for the company that makes your video card. Go there and read what they have to say on their support/downloads/drivers pages.
You could also try and update through windows update, or the display properties window (there may even be a hyperlink to the manufacturer's website in one of the display properties tabs), or the device manager, but I think you're better off using the above method.
And is it one game in particular or every game? Is this a recent thing or has it always occured?
We can probably help you, but you really need to give as much detailed information as possible. |

its for any game that i play.....the monitor shuts off. i've only had the computer a few weeks, and i have yet to be able to play a game. i think it may have to do with the fact it is in full screen mode. yet when i watch a movie, it doesn't do this.
heres the info from the belarc thing: RADEON 9600 SERIES [Display adapter]
RADEON 9600 SERIES - Secondary [Display adapter]
Default Monitor (2x)
Proview TGIC-1910F [Monitor] (18.0"vis, s/n FEQB550074984, May 2005)
i went to the ATI website, but have no idea what i should download. |

i was just playing Hitman, when my monitor shut off and i received this message:
" VPU Recover has reset your graphics accelerator as it was no longer responding to graphics driver commands"
I then get an option of sending an error report to ATI. So my question is, how do i make sure that the graphics accelerator responds to graphic driver commands? This is the same error message that I have recieved playing other games. |

If it's a 9600Pro, it's a cursed card. So many issues.
Disable VPU recover...it's a bad feature IMHO. Update the drivers from ati.com.
If still nothing, return the card. Derrek has stories about this hardware. |

I didn't read all these, but from experience, what the problem is, could be your screen resolution settings. EX: 640x480, 800x600 , 1024x768
Right click your desktop, and go to the screen properties. I think if you find your setting are at a lower resolution, you won't be getting the game to show up. Like, u can hear it sometimes, if this is the case, but no picture displays.
I can't remember exacts to how I fixed this, but, also, in the Game Property settings, if your game is set to display at a resolution that is in conflict with your monitor settings, that could create the issue.
I hope this helps in some way.
