Serious topic. Evacuation procedures. How do they work? Anybody ever really think about this? Or inquire? And how do you know they know how to get to you? Sad

i'd just like to point out that not only will you be interrogated, but you'll also be tortured. i suggest you study scott's previous post on this thread so you know the right answers to their questions, and thus have to endure minimal pain:
http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?p=4216#4216

hopefully, you'll be able to get out of the interrogation room with only your eyes removed and leg tendons cut. watch out tho, they might throw in a few curve ball questions to screw you up so they can torture you more.

North Korean soldier: what do you think of korea!!!!
you: i told you! it's the pinnacle of civillization! i love it! it's beautiful! god im in pain!
North Korean soldier: what do you think of korea!!!

You mean aside from bend over and kiss your a$$ goodbye?

You're not really stressing about evacuation procedures, are you? If the sh*t really hit the fan there would be chaos with everyone trying to leave and any plans would probably go out the window pretty quickly.

I worked with a woman who was dating the second in command of a Chinook helicopter company (those big ones with the front and rear rotors). The topic came up over drinks and he said that if an emergency evacuation of American civilians were to occur their procedures had them go to Olympic stadium to pick people up. Since most of us at the party were Canadian he said he was sure they weren't going to be checking passports- if you looked non-Korean you just piled on (Did that mean that gyopos were pretty much screwed? dunno). Since we were within spitting distance of the stadium this sounded pretty swell. If not I guess you'd just join the rest of the mob at the gates of the closest US base.

I used be an embassy warden for the gu I lived in- they gave me a list of all registered Canadians living there along with their addresses and phone numbers, as well as planned meeting points in case of emergency. What we would do once getting everyone to the meeting points was anyone's guess- a group hug followed by a rendition of kumbaya?

Yeah, that's what I figured.. Shucks, and I thought they'd give me a hug. Maybe I can get out of it by telling them I'm Canadian. Ha, ha.

Non-combatant Americans (like me) here under the SOFA (like me) would all be put into Chinooks and taken to Japan. In fact twice a month they have drills and get a free trip to Japan. I think the chinooks only go so far, maybe down by Osan then we are taken by cargo plane to Japan. I don't know how that plan would go under real-world war stuff but there's gonna be chaos.

Just move out and hope for the best. Fortunately I live in the extreme south of Korea so it will take awhile for the DPRK tanks to roll this far. That being said my 1st year here had a party of DPRK commandos attack this area. They didn't get all that close to where I live but it sure was exciting hearing small arms fire and a dozen or so Apache Helocopters buzzing around searching for stray DPRK commandos.
My wife and I are keeping our Dollars and gold in one handy location to make the run - to pay for bribes and stuff. No you cannot have my address.

Caustic's post just reminded me of something.

There seems to be a lot of threads about evacuation and possible war with NK. People seem to be asking, 'should I be worried now', 'should I leave now'? The obvious answer is- the day the US orders military dependents (wives and kids) to leave is the day you should seriously think about getting out yourself.

As long as they're still here I wouldn't sweat it.

This is a 2 1/2 year old thread. Do you have some special inside information the rest of us should know about? And how did you find out about it in the EAU?

Given the proximity of the enemy, I'm a little surprised Korean citizens aren't allowed to bear arms.

Me? Barring a nuclear attack, I'll stay holed up in my apartment, making tasty lemonade and laying out a tray of Choco Pies for the undoubtedly famished NK soldiers.
