I've arrived in Seoul. Actually, I've been here for a day or so, but could't get to a computer.
I'll start working two Mondays from now, I was going to work sooner, but my family wants me to check out the DMZ. I asked them whats in the DMZ, they said nothing, so I replied so why should I go. Anyways, its a good trip with the relatives here.
With the exception of a few, you guys were of no help at all. Hopefully I can contribute more and without the attitude and bitterness that many exhibit.
Hopefully I see some of you around, I'll be in Inchon. |

Anyway. Enjoy Korea. The DMZ is worth a visit just for the spooky atmosphere alone. Do the tour with the US army. |

enjoy your time in Korea surrounded by all the burn out teacher!!!
start drinking 3/4 nights a week, and when the locals tell you "you look so handsom" and "you look so smart", by all means believe them. |

Since I don't recognize your name i figured I would have a look back and see who caused you the consternation to have such lovely opening remarks.
I wanted to see the unanswered questions and who on the board had victimized you...lo and behold, it's you.
Thoughts on the questions you ask from your own mouth, mixed with a few stereotypes about Korean women.

BTW, Koreans aren't very good at drinking they just do it a lot...I haven't met a lot of Koreans with high tolerance levels.

The Korean citizen question people focused in on the important issue of military service. And if you were smart you wouldn't have tied these two items together on the board (Your addy and the fact you haven't done MS). If you came in on your american passport you may have evaded them looking for the fact you need to do military service but if you are also a Korean citizen you are still required to do it. Foreigners have outed other foreigners for doing privates, smoking weed, don't you think these same losers might get a kick out of putting up someone acting like an arse on the board? (and you received a bunch of advice in the original thread.)
Anyway, something about "choosing battles", "kettles, black"...I don't know...but good luck with making the board a more useful and friendly place. (yes folks, I was bored...end of year party last night and I don't feel like moving from the bed) |

This isn't a Rainbow Gathering, buddy...people have plenty of things to say about Korea...both good and bad...so don't focus too much on the former that you become blind to the latter (or vice versa). People come here to grouse and blather anonymously (except for those of us who work together and know each other's ID)...feel free to do both.
When I first got here, the accomodation I was promised would not be available for a month...I had to sleep on the living room floor and keep my gear on the porch. I was sharing with FOUR other people, and the only decent person was the one getting fired...the guy I was replacing.
We lived down the street from a public cemetary and a slaughterhouse that smelled perpetually of feces and blood. The only PC room for about two miles featured some cretin who read my e-mail and spied on everything I did on the computer. My boss and his 2nd in command were constantly looking over everyone's shoulder and telling them they sucked, that is...when they weren't yelling at them. Yay, Way-Day-Oh Kimpo! Hope you're having a better start than that.

I don't have regular computer access right now, whenever an opportunity arises I check my messages and stuff.
It's going well. I'm all set up with my employer. So for a week or so more I'm going to travel Korea a bit. I'm not a teacher, but an electrical engineering senior working in SK for the summer. I found out that I might have 11 hour work days, so I might end up bitter! |
