I don't know why, but I cannot sleep before having to taking a flight. It leaves at 11 but I want to be ready by 7.... a bit crazy. I'm nervous somehow something might go wrong.

Ah, I guess I can rest after I arrive.

I use to be like that.

Now I've taken so many flights, its like getting on a bus. Meaning, I sleep really well and forget to worry about that.

Also helps to read a few books about airplanes and crashes.. sounds funny.. but actually alleviates any worries you have as you realize how remote the chance is of it happening.

I'm always packing and cleaning until the last moment. If it's a long flight, like going home, I find staying up helps me sleep on the plane and avoid jetlag.

I can't sleep before a morning flight either. Whatever you do, don't take sleep medication. Chances are you still will be unable to sleep, and you'll be doubly tired in the morning.

My advice would be to do vigorous exercise the day before your flight. Make yourself so exhausted that you're out as soon as your head hits the pillow.

Nothing wrong with being early for a long flight. I like to show up maybe 3 hours before departure then all the procedures are very relaxed & you've got everything well in hand in time to have a bite to eat or a drink or 2 before take-off (airport bar staff dont bat an eye at serving a 9am "relaxant"). I like airports & flying -- a world unto itself. People on the move outside their customary habit zones are more approachable & interesting than their usual selves.

I hate flying and airports much more than I used to, but I agree it's better to be way early for your flight than cutting it close and rushing through check-in and security. I like to have a couple of hours to kill in departures to roam around the duty-free, a couple of visits to the smoking lounge and maybe a bag of goodies for the airplane, when the dross they try to pass off as food doesn't cut it.

I can be the same way. I'm headed back to the States this month for the first time in three years and it's a morning flight. Call it the little kid in me or whatever, but I'm rather excited and doubt I'll sleep much the night before.

I never sleep before flights...I have a paranoia about getting up late. And that last night of whereever I am is usuaslly spent making sure everything is ready for the trip. When I finally board the plain, I am nicely tired and can sleep well.

I used to be like that when I was little. I was told it was because of excitement?? Now I don't do it though.. the excitement of flying must have worn off..
