Some of you might know that I'm getting hitched later this year. Maybe in October.

My self and the (un)lucky lady don't really want to do the wedding hall thing. Any of you who have been to weddings in those places know it's a bit of a cattle-market and not really 'special'.

So we're looking for something a bit more tasteful. Like a good restaurant (of any variety really) with a nice garden attached. Somewhere in Seoul or nearby.

Anyone impressed by the location of a wedding they went to here?

Unfortunately, money is an object!!! We aren't exactly rich.

A friend of mine was married a few years ago in Changdeokgung () near Chongno/Anguk Station. It was a traditional ceremony complete with hanbok and the like. It was very pleasant with the meal afterwards in a nice traditional style place not far away. I don't know exactly how much it cost, but as I recall it wasn't super expensive to book the area in the palace. I can ask him if you want. PM me.

I agree ... avoid the wedding hall thing if you can. I've been to a number of those, and they can be positively absurd. One I went to had the groom enter the room on a motorized platform suspended on a rail attached to the side of the hall, whilst bubbles were spewed out of a machine at the front.

We got married at a church.. the Seoul Anglican Cathedral, to be precise.. but if you are not religious, then I guess it's out of the question for you.

I've heard that you can rent university grounds for weddings.. but I am not sure..

Anyway.. congratulations!

I was married at the Korea House. They do a traditional Korean style wedding. Wife's family liked the idea a lot. The Korea House takes care of most of the details, so there wasn't a lot of discussion. It was a good choice, at least for my wife's familly and me.

The web page is here:

Plus the cost is reasonable. A lot for foreigners have there wedding at the Korea House it seems. Very happy I did.

yes, my wedding. hahaha.
didn't want to do the wedding hall thing either. we had it outdoors at children's grand park in seoul. we were blessed with beautiful weather and everyone kept commenting on what a beautiful wedding it was. affordable, too.

after the wedding that evening, our friends got together at a nearby bar and did the toast thing and had a great time. outdoor is really good for pictures, too. the pictures we have so far turned out wonderful.

here's my wedding photos....we look damn good, so why not?

Congrats Eamo..Very Happy

My husband and I did a traditional korean wedding at a place in Jeon ju ( a little too far for you I think), we had decided to have two ceremonies one in korea and one here in canada where I'll wear a typical 'wedding dress'. Some other places that were suggested to me when we got married were folk villages (lotte world..?) and Olympic park.

Hey congrats Eamo! Outdoor ceremonies are great if you plan right. We almost had a disaster. Our wedding on June 27, 1999 was the scheduled day for the monsoon season to begin. Luckily it held off for one day and we just sweltered instead.

Hey canadian_in_korea, we also had a traditional ceremony in Jeonju. Did you have it at the Confucian school, too? It probably is a bit far for Eamo, but in 1999 it only cost 900,000 for the wedding and photos.

sistersarah, your photos are lovely. I think your husband snagged a beauty. Your in-laws must be as proud as peacocks.

I'm sewing the tubes into my tux as I write this.

Thanks for some good suggestions everybody. My fiance really wants a modern, western wedding. I don't think she wants me or her to do the hanbok thing at all. So all the palaces and folk museam ideas are out but appreciated.

Our vision is something more like a nice garden where we can set up some chairs and flowers and stuff. Kinda like Sistersarah's set-up. Then after a quick western ceremony, into the attached restaurant for munching, then that's it!!! Fly off to somewhere.

seriously, i really recommend the place we did our wedding through. we didn't have to do ANYTHING except the invitations. they set up the chairs, flowers, everything. our package (for only 1.8 million) included dress and tux rentals, photos (4 albums and several large frames, both studio pics and wedding day pics), dvd and videos, hair, make-up, bouquet and corsages, ummm, i forget, but it was an amazing deal and everything went smoothly. oh, and i rode a rollercoaster after the wedding! if you want more info, i'll pm it to you.
It's good if you want a nice, hassle-free wedding, very little planning. I definitely recommend outdoor.

It sounds great Sarah. I really like the look of what you did there. I put it to my girl and she wonders if there is someone near for a reception with meal. She also doesn't like the idea of banking on the weather. Is there a Plan B at Childrens Grand Park if it rains?
