What does anyone know about the Korea Times Language School in Seoul? I've tried doing a search for it here and elsewhere, but nothing has turned up (maybe because all the search terms are pretty broad).
Anyway, any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

I don't think so. At least that name hasn't surfaced during my admittedly limited dealings with the school. Oh, and I think the school's official name is Korea Times Institute of English (or maybe Korea Times Institute of International Education). My bad. |

So exactly who is Stephanie Kim, how is she affiliated with the Korea Times Institute of English, and why should I be wary of her? |

Stephanie Kim is the name of the recruiter behind FT Union, whose name gets periodically dragged through the mud on this site. It's very possible that there may be some confusion of the credibility surrounding that particular name. If no one comes back on here and clarifies it for you, then I wouldn't worry about it to much, as things can be vague on here, at the best of times. A lot more clearer way will be to ask the school to allow you to talk to 1-2 foreign teachers who work or have worked there. And particularly the one who you may be replacing. Ask them a lot of questions and if you want, bring up the name Stephanie Kim and see if it resonates with them. |

I'm going to have to come out and stand up for Stephanie.
She may not be the most organised and with-it person in the world, but she is honest and trustworthy; more than you can say for 99% of recruiters and school wongjonnims out there.
As far as I know, she isn't affliated with FT Union anymore and is taking a break from the recruiting business. |

I have no knowledge about FT Union- the Stephanie Kim I spoke to was at the newspaper's language institute. When she said that I could make about 3 mil a month by working 25 or so hours a week, red flags started flying. |

If you're going to have to stand up for Stepenny, then I'm going to have to add my 2 cents.
That biatch is anything but trustworthy and honesty.
3 years ago she got me a job. My school was shutting down 1/2 way thru my contract. They offered me the option of staying on for an extra month or quitting at the end of the current month. So, I started to hunt and Stephenie got me this gig to start at the end of the current month.
Great! So, I gave my notice that I was done at the end of this month. I did the interview, they're interested, signed the contract, the whole deal. I was to start at the beginning of the next month which meant I had no time off. Technically, I would have had to work illegally for a bit since I hadn't gone to immigration yet, but for me that was no biggie at the time (probably not now either). I hadn't been given much info as to when exactly they wanted me there on Monday morning, but hey this is Korea. Sunday, I tried to contact the wjn, but she told me to contact the recruiter. I thot that was a little strange, but she was seriously pregnant so I thot that was good enough for me. Monday morning came and I was up a lot earlier than usual due to my uncertainty. I FINALLY was able to get ahold of the wench. She tells me, " Oh, they changed their minds." She couldn't have told me any sooner!?! Talk about saving things to the very end!
Fortunately our paths haven't crossed since I went to pick up my papers from her and that dwarf prik Aussie she had working with her.
I did interview with a Korea Times school in the Daechi area. I had to do a half hour or so demo class. I actually had it hard for that job, but they obviously weren't interested. No Stepenny to be seen. |

Stephanie Kim got me a job at an english camp at the korean language whatever its called. My flight was repeatedly put off, my documents were late, and she rarely returned my calls or emails. This was a language camp she was contracted to organize and recruit for.
Yes she is very disorganized, and is about as put together as a bucket of rusty bolts. My favorite was her promise to both myself and my sister was that yes someone would be at incheon airport to pick me up. Some how in a massive food poisioning epidemic they forgot me at the airport. Only by the good fortune that my sister was in Seoul did I get a place to stay for the night.
4 hours later the phone is ringing off the hook with Stephanie Kim trying to find out what happened to me screaming that I never showed up. Anyway I went to the school and after the first day decided that if I could possiblely find away out of what amounted to a three ring circus I was going to be on the first bird for freedom out of that mad house.
The school had lost so many students that I was basically used a sub and was pretty much a useless apendage at the school. Using a connection provided by my sister I arranged a contract at another school and Stephanie Kim released me from my contract as I was basically just an over paid extra teacher.
So after one week of the language camp which ran from monday to saturday morning I hopped a bus and a subway and got the heck out of that place. The best part was she wanted me to get the school I had arranged my new contract with to pay my airfare. She got told to stuff it in her ear by my new boss. In the end I let her dock my 1 week of wages and paid the difference of the ticket off myself.
The school itself was pretty nice, nothing to extroidinary. The staff seemed hopelessly sinking in a blissful quagmire of utter chaos and turmoil. Nothing to good in the amenities, no weight room or anything like that. |
