I have been looking at other people's replies to this same question (or similar) but haven't found the answer I want so thought i would post it again. I am going to Jeju in August, on a long weekend, so I don't want to just show up and hope that something will be available. Can anyone give me some advice on a place to stay in the southern part of the island? especially somewhere that i can book ahead of time. would be great to be near the beach too!

thank you!!

Cool When I stayed in Seogwipo,I stayed at Seogwipo Park, which is located right across the street from the seashore. It's considered a one-star (*) hotel--at that time(3 years ago!) it cost W 45,000 per night. However, the rooms were very big(actually, several people can stay in one room),and it had a very picturesque Laughing view of the ocean. You don't need to reserve ahead of time.It takes about 20 min. by Airport Limousine Bus( the bus stop is right across the street, too!) to the Jungmun Resort, then a 15 min.walk to the beach.

There are also a lot of cheap yeogwans( W 20,000--W 30,000) along the southern coast---just check your Lonely Planet guide.

In general ,accomodations are more expensive on Jeju island than on the mainland.

I stayed at that hotel both times that I stayed in Seogwipo, and I didn't need to reserve either time.It was peak season, too! However, you can always call them to confirm that---they might have new management by now! actually, you can find info for that hotel on the Internet,it's not in the Lonely Planet.

I just remembered that the 2nd time I stayed there( 2 yrs ago),it was a bit run--down---I couldn't get my bedsheets changed without a hassle. Sad However, they might have a new management by now! All the other conditions were the same.

And another thing--- you can also pick up a guide that lists all the hotels when you arrive on Jeju.

Seogwipo is the best place I've stayed in Korea. If you want to be near the beach then there are loads of clean, cheap, places near jungmoon beach.

If you're going peak season then get a Korean friend to help you book a place. I went a little while ago and we found a very cheap great place with an ocean view, and only a 2k taxi ride from the beach. We walked to the beach because it was a really nice walk.

There are loads and loads of good quality minbak near 'King mart' near the lotte hotel. The one we stayed in was called a minbak but it had a small kitchen, a double bed, an ocean view and a fantastic galbi restaurant downstairs.

Loads of places to stay near King mart though I should imagine there are fewer and more expensive options at peak season.

I'd suggest booking. I would give you the number but I seem to have lost their card.
