The difference with Japan and Korea is that there, foreigners and naturalized Japanese take concrete actions against racism. Some take legal action against the Japanese government, write books about it, and file formal complaints with the UN (http://www.debito.org/, http://www.debito.org/otarulawsuit.html#OVERALL). Here, we just log into Dave's, bitch a lot about it, and -surprise!- nothing changes.
In all seriousness, the Japanese government interprets the term 'citizen' as stated in their constitution as including residents; thus, foreigners have equal protection under the Japanese constitution. I don't know if this interpretation is shared by the Korean government. Don't start packing you bags to Japan yet. The discriminatory practice continues as the Japanese government does little to remedy the problem and uses faulty logic when ruling on related court cases.

People on this board misuse the word racist so much it has little meaning.
Racism: A set of incorrect assumptions, opinions and acts resulting from the belief that one race is inherently/genetically superior to another.
Racist: Racism has historically been defined as the belief that race is the primary determinant of human capacities, that a certain race is inherently superior or inferior to others, and/or that individuals should be treated differently according to their racial designation.
Discrimination: Treating people in a different, usually bad, manner because of their class, race, gender or some other category instead of who they are as individuals.
Prejudice: Implies a preconceived idea, judgment, or opinion, usually an unfavorable one marked by hatred, and is directed toward a racial religious, cultural, or ethnic group.
Because you were discriminated against doesn't make the person a racist.
If I believe that the group of black youths following me down the street are going to rob me, I "may be/am" prejudice, and I might even discriminate against them by not letting them in my store, but that does not automatically make you a racist.
The word should maintain it's power and to do so we need to stop using it so callously. |

*YAWN*
You're splitting hairs here.
Racially discriminatory policies spring from racist beliefs. |

The place before it was the Limelight did not allow foreigners in the club (let me make this clear, not the Limelight, a club that was in the same location before it).
Blew my mind how Itaewon, which has been a foreigner area for a couple of hundred years would not allow a foreigner in.
I was with a group of ten Koreans and I was the only white dude. |

I suspect any club that will put up a sign saying, "Koreans Only", would be a really, really, awfully crap place to go.
All Korean-stylee. Bad whiskey for 250,000 and plates of fruit for 80,000. Pushy waiters and piercingly bad K-pop.
They're doing you a favor putting that sign up. |

| Go do something irrational that negatively affects the club (but don't get caught). I would rather read a good story than another thread about racism or a place that discriminates against foreigners, along with textbook definitions of racism. We've seen that so much here that it has become cliche. Let's assemble a waegook-only ddong-chim club that attacks random Koreans on the street. |

Realistically though.. those places really suck! - if they had let you in, you'd have wished they hadn't. |
True if there is only a couple of you. Great fun if you go with a whole bunch of Korean blokes. |
