Kind humans,

I am thinking about working in Korea for a year, after I finish school, beginning January 2004. What I am interested in knowing is:

1. What are the names of some of the schools I need to avoid working for.
2. Do you enjoy living over here?
3. How does the cost of living compare to America?
4. Any other advice you could provide me you deem important would be appreciated also.

In response to your questions:

1. The names of schools to avoid are too numerous to mention. Korean spend more money on private education than the government spends on public education. THe sheer number of private language schools here is staggering.....it's best to look for work, get an offer, then look into the particular school....put a post up here or scan the black lists.

2. I enjoy living here. It's not for everybody though. Keep in mind that you are not forced to stay if you don't like it. There is a moral obligation to fulfil the terms of an agreed to contract but if it's really a situation you don't like you can always leave...

3. The cost of living here is cheaper than in the US but not by much. Some things are cheaper but some things are more expensive. 600 000won a month is a realistic amount to budget for monthly spending. THis will vary depending on how frugal / freespending you are.
