Oh, that's why! I thought it had to do with the lasting scars of slavery and segregation.

You've never heard the theory that 'nigger' became 'nigga' as a way to bring a connotation of familiarity, something almost positive, out of the inherent negativity associated with the word 'nigger'?

I've heard, usually in Korea, Caucasians refer to themselves as 'whiteys' to other Caucasians, but let's say for example a Korean or a Gyopo used the term (or an Italian, or an Indian, or a...). Some people would shrug it off, but I bet the same people claiming that usage of "the N word" holds back the black community in North America would be the first to get up in arms at such an epithet.

And, as far as I know (which isn't considerable, admittedly), blacks in Africa don't refer to themselves as 'nigga' as commonly as their brethren in the west do. So what's your theory of the cause for black Africans not becoming "successful"?

Also, your conjecture that Ebonics is counterproductive for black success is equally ill-informed. Do you really think that an intelligent black man or woman (who is not in the entertainment industry, I should say) would say something such as what up? or yo, peep dis in a professional situation?

I know I shouldnt ask this after expounding upon the ignorance of your stereotyping of an entire race, but Im curious, where did you grow up?

pollyp views are not too different from Bill Cosby's views.

You can read the entire article here http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewSpecialReports.asp?Page=/SpecialReports/archive/200407/SPE20040702a.html

excerpt:
The entertainer has been at the center of a racially charged controversy since May when he ridiculed the poor grammar of some blacks. "I can't even talk the way these people talk, 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... and I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk," Cosby said in Washington, D.C. on May 17, at an event marking the anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education desegregation ruling.

The word n*gger doesn't bother me. Black people should stop using it on each other if they take such offense to it. Until then, they'll have to put up with white people calling them that. I think that the term n*gger would have faded away much more quickly if black people hadn't themselves been keeping it around. Also, they'd be much more successful in life, if they spoke proper English. .. another example of black people holding themselves back. There's still a bit of a victim complex among black people in America. In some ways they are similar to Koreans.

So if many blacks commonly refer to themselves as n*ggers, then wigger is the correct nomenclature for the group of people who imitate n*ggers.

WOW

This from the mouths of people who call themselves teachers.

You cannot be serious.

Discrimination and racism happen because of how black people talk?

They got to be like the rest of us white people to succeed in North America?

Just WTF is "proper English" anyway?

from wikipedia:
Quote:
Wigger is a derogatory slang term used to describe a person, usually of European descent and with pale skin (often described as a "Caucasian" person), who dresses, speaks, or otherwise behaves in a manner that is stereotypically associated with African-American culture — for example, speaking in Ebonics. The term is a portmanteau word combining the words 'white' and 'n*gger', or 'wannabe' and 'n*gger', and is associated with cultural appropriation.

Did not know that. From where I'm from wigger is a term used to describe someone on speed. We also called them Tweakers.

"I be thinkin' that Ebonics be stupid." (Spike Lee)

Gwendolyn Brooks, Bill Cosby, Spike Lee, Winton Marsallis, Branford Marsallis, Will Smith.

No shortage of brilliant African Americans who might tend to agree with Ms. Plummer.

Kind of like Jackie Robinson protesting Muhammed Ali back in the day.

No shortage of rich African Americans who might tend to agree with Ms. Plummer.

Because they 'wig out' or freak out. That's what wigger used to mean for me as well.
