"Made-in-Korea" Becomes Byword for Quality Appliances
"When you get married in Iran, it's the dream of brides to get a place decked out with Korean home electronics," says Cho Seung-mi, the head of the Korean Society of Iran who moved to the Gulf nation after she married an Iranian 29 years ago.

Recently, camera phones are taking the younger generation by storm. With Samsung and Nokia fighting it out for the top spot, Korean-made multi-function cell phones are pushing aside the law and hejab to create a new lifestyle, just as they did in Korea.

As a result, major Korean companies Samsung and LG have gone beyond advertising individual products toward a strategy of advertising made-in-Korea quality to ensure a stable export base for their entire range of products.

Is there are word for these kind self congratulatory articles that are tantamount to masturbation? (the sin of Onan). Why dont I see these kind of articles in other countries? It sounds like the Koreans are trying to convince themselves.

Yes, their electronic products are world-class, their automobiles are improving, but they still seem to be incapable of constructing a building in which the plumbing is reliable and the windows fit.

says Cho Seung-mi,

Nice to see they surveyed a wide variety of Iranians on their product preferences.

Have any of you ever opened a Korea Herald/Times and NOT seen an article about cell phones??

You would think that they are obsessed with them, stare at them all the time and constantly talk about/compare them. But luckily, Traditional Korean Culture requires them to think beyond possessions and status and connect with blah blah blah.

Oh, puh-lease don't tell me there's still a few Westerners crawling the planet who actually take that old pile of horse manure seriously. No, I don't mean you, but the fact that you'd even use it sarcastically suggests that you actually credited it at some point in the recent past. When I arrived such assumptions were almost forgiveable as long as you came to your senses w/in the first two months and recanted, but in 2005 talk like that -- even in joke form -- is enough to get you committed.
