I just bought a new Epson color stylus cx3500 at e-mart. I installed the drivers, threw in the ink cartridges, plugged in the power cord and usb cable and turned it on. Well, when I turn the thing on the E light and all the other lights just flash and I haven't found anything to remedy this. Do I have to return the thing?

1. Reboot?
2. Paper loaded?
3. Ink cartridges all in snug?
4. "Printer Spooler" service is running?
5. Printer shows up in "Printers and Faxes"? All is well there?
6. Will it print a test page?

Just some ideas....

Try removing the ink cartridges and putting them back in, then restart it.

For some reason, the ink cartridges are really finicky on almost all inkjet printers. They may look like they're in correctly, but may not be.

with my CX5100 I had to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them.

Also did you download the latest drivers from epson? I always get the latest downloads rather than relying on the CD that comes with it.

thanks for the advice...I tried everything and nothing worked. I phoned epson and they said that the printer must be defective so I returned it to E-mart with no hassle. Anyways, my new cx3500 is fantastic.

Well I'm glad you got it sorted but I was wondering if perhaps the order of installation caused an issue... my manual says power on > ink > power off > USB > driver disk > power on > install and though it's in Korean the bold red type seems really anal about that last power off/on sequence.

Granted I've got the CX1500 but I guess it would be comparable.

BTW, people complain that these machines are ink hogs. They are if you use cheap ink. From my experience, if you stick with Epson cartridges, your ink will last a good length of time. That's on top of making sure your default settings include Use Black Ink checked or you'll be draining your colour to print black...

I can't find that setting on mine. I"m using the cx5100 though. I have a checkbox for black-ink only which makes all prints grayscale i.e. no color.

Sorry, wasn't clear. We do have the same checkbox it seems (can't remember the exact wording). When I said default, I was meaning going through Windows control panel and checking it there i.e. not every single time you do a print job.
