Just been musing over a few things about jobs and working.

As for me, I'm a workaholic and I direct my energy towards making a better program and improving myself as a teacher. In general, if I complain about something I also have a solution. I spend a ton of time planning and grading and I bring an element of tech with manipulation of multimedia materials as well as laying out handouts in an attractive way.

What makes you someone who should be hired? What do you bring to a program?

Not just teaching. What do you bring as a total package to a job?

Zappadelta beat me to it by 10 minutes. I guess I do not make a very attentive shopper.

I bring a very strong work ethic with a strong interest in professional development. By that I mean educating myself as well as attending workshops and conferences.

I also bring tech (re: geek status) to the job. My strengths in this area include layout and design for handouts as well as web sites - I currently maintain 4 web sites with 1 possibly 2 more coming in the very near future.

I usually bring a bottle of water, because it's good for my throat, and water consumption is good for my diet.

Nice try Beav, but you should've (not should of) known better.

As for me, I bring a well-prepared lesson plan, an eagerness to see students learn and a sense of humor the students seem to like. Also, each semester, I am more knowledgeable than the previous one.

That said, the middle two points above have been sorely suffering since my move to Underachievement University, Korea.

As far as fancy handouts, I can't be bothered as I don't see it as an important part of learning. Not to mention that I'm computer illiterate... More power to SuperHero and Beav, I don't see it making much (if any) difference.

Aside from what's already been mentioned, around 10 years of experience as a foreign language student. I often apply little tricks that my own teachers used to help the kids remember things, or make lessons more interesting.

A positive attitude plus a lesson plan that integrates reading, writing, listening and speaking in EVERY class.

Ah!!! But if you can "catch" them then and get them to really like English, you've done a good job! It would make MY job a lot easier!!!

Self-promotion is a valuable life skill. After all, if you don't toot your horn, nobody else will toot it for you.
