I have noticed that all the after school programs are all offering no housing. What is a good contract for working a 9-5 elementary school position? Is 6 hrs teaching a bad deal. Thanks in advance everyone.

Pay between 2.0 and 2.3 plus housing is a general start. Working hours 9 to 5 are average, and teaching from 18 to 23 hours or so, but some schools fudge it and you work less (or sit around and wait a lot between those hours when you don't have class).

Read up on GEPIK jobs and you'll learn more about this type of employment.

you should scrutinize every single aspect of any after school program job you are thinking of taking: they are really hit and miss. actually more miss.
these afterschool programs are the result of korea's equal education policy, they are trying to make english language education more accessible to all kids, not just the ones whose parents can afford to send them to hakwons. fair enough. but the program is totally unorganised. there is no consistency in the programs as they are being farmed out by the government to recruiting agencies. a lot of these recruiting agencies know squat about how to structure a program (they are not educators, they are business people), they are the same guys whose bread and butter is being the go-between for overseas language programs and who find teachers for illegal privates on the side.
for the most part, their interest isn't in creating a good program, they are in it for the sizeable fee the government gives them for doing the programs.

If your looking at public school gigs I wouldn't be adverse to looking into EPIK. ESPECIALLY if your currently here and can choose your position. Its strange hours (I "work" 8.30-4.30 butonly do 3/4 lessons a day) and the textbook guidelines are non exsistent in my school but with proper research u can land a nice job with a few weeks extra vacation (if ur lucky).

My only problem is I'm only on 1.9mill :S
