|
|
So I went to Mr. Pizza (Made for women) for the first time today with my K-girlfriend, and noticed that all customers save for 2 other guys with girls were all chicks....my girlfriend mentionned that K-guys don't go to Western restaurants without girls, as this would be strange...she said they would rather spend time getting drunk together....said same about going to movies, guys don't usually do that together....I was wondering, anyone have more info on this, why exactly is Western food seen as this date-only thing for men? I surely had no problem going to Asian restaurants back home with the mates.... |

A phenomena I've been looking at for years.
In general, Korean guys, when left to themselves, stick to Korean restaurants. |

Yeah, for most Korean guys, KFC/Pizza Hut/Burger King is a place where (first) your mom takes you, (then) you go with your gf, and (later) where you bring your kids. Oh, sometimes you'll order your dongsaeng to go there and buy eats for the boyz at the PC bang, but other than that it's for girls, ajummas with kids, grannies and toddlers. It's funny-foreign-finger-food disneyland. |

As far as I know, they don't serve soju at western-style restaurants or fast food places.

Or at PC bangs. (as far as I know) --but i have seen a group of high school dropout-looking types knocking back the jinro at a cinema in the middle of the day. |

That is interesting. Funny, but I'd have to agree with the Korean guys on this one. Getting drunk and eating Korean food is 1000 times better any day of the week.
I do however notice that most Korean women love to go out in western restaurants or coffee shops and just chat with their friends (as their socialization). When they are out with galbi and soju, most often with their boyfriends or out with the guys. |

Western food is for dates because it is more expensive. How many guys go out for expensive food without women unless it is a business meeting?
It is true that most Korean guys don't go to movies without girls too. |

it is true that most guys (of any nationality) don't go to movies without girls.
really, how many times have you been in your home country and seen a pair of gents or even a group watching a flick together? not much, i'd reckon.
personally, if i'm gonna have a boys' night out i'd much rather spend it having a beer and watching the game than going to the movies. a movie would be at the bottom of my list. but that's just me (and alot of other guys). |

That's because Korean guys are generally more conservative than women. For those of you who may have failed to notice. |

Regarding seeing films/movies.
I'm one of those types that hates going to see any movies/films with anyone - guys or girls. I just think its a waste of time (unless you really didn't want to be that person and kill a couple hours of the evening so you don't have to talk to them).
If there is a movie/film I really want to see.. I just go by myself as a solo activity. Gives me something to do.. and I can spend more quality time with friends or girlfriend elsewhere. |
