Do you speak Korean only when you have to?

Do you spend less than a million a month?

For me, yes and no, generally.

Speaking Korean: With friends I met when I first came to Korea, before I could speak Korean, I always speak English. I feel just weird speaking Korean in front of them. Stupid, I know, but true. For new friends it is ok. Korean, English, Konglish. No worries

Spending money: Excluding rent, 500,000 per month.

I limit myself to $10k per day, with a reserve fund of about $200k for capital expenditures, for example, gym shoes, and a printer for the computer. One time fees. Everything else, groceries, school supplies, whatever, comes out of the 10k. I try to spend less than 5k per day, and save up for the weekends. So far, I've almost been able to stick to it. I'm new here, so I still need a bit more for groceries sometimes, until my pantry gets built up.

I give myself 100k per week, and have 200k per month for expenses. I dont use it all though.

I must be doing something wrong. Our monthly expenses are regularly about 1.5 million won -- and I don't even own a car.

No and yes.

Then again, I'm a student and I barely make a million a month... even paying my own rent and living in Seoul I'm still spending not much... riding my bike helps cut down on costs.

I speak Korean as a matter of choice with any Korean who can't speak English at a native speaker level. That's cause my Korean is better than their English and it's more comfortable for everyone.

This has come up before....Answers first---Yes -at least greetings.

Spending - over a million for certain

One million is like 32 000 won a day. That is really not a lot. If you drink or smoke it's peanuts. But also I find I always need something--shaving stuff , new shirt whatever it's always something.

I really don't know how people get by on 500 or so---many claim to .They must be living the Kraft Dinner cheapo lifestyle--never buying a book, never going out or shopping or travel fun etc.

Yeah I don't drink and I don't smoke, but I have a terrible addiction to Yongsan Electronics Market.

No, I find it has a direct and positive effect on my quality of life to speak the lingo wherever and whenever possible...that includes the pocketbook.

And what was the second question?... no, family of four...give me a break, we spend more than a mil just on food and utilities.
