the question should be "Why" rather than "Where". Those things break down.

A lot.

While Ipod is duly famous, please consider iRiver. They're much cheaper, runn on a AA battery (no replacement costs), are smaller, and available all over Korea. What they don;t have is 40gigs of memory, but really, do you really need every song ever made to go to the grocery store?

Bought my gf one at the Apple store in Coex mall.

You might find one for 10,000 won cheaper if you hunt around in Youngsan, but it's not worth it, and you may not get the latest model.

Coex

And ipods aren't infamous for breaking down...they had some battery problems in the first gen mac only version that came out 3 or 4 years ago but those have been long solved. People that perpetuate this myth are simply anti-apple to the extreme.

Don't buy an iriver...their use of microsoft bases software means that you're eventually gonna be screwed (unless you always pay for your music).

iRiver is drop and drag -- kind of hard to get screwed with that.

Please explain, because on the face of it that appears to be one damned silly statement.
I've been using MP3 players for the past 6 years (I'm on my 3rd one), yet in spite of my experience your statement makes absolutely no sense to me. Care to elaborate?
Is the day of doom when Apple shuts down the rest of the computers on the planet soon at hand or something?

Yes there are some people who are anti-Apple for no real reason. There are also people who would buy utter crap if you stuck an 'i' at the beginning of the product name.
go figure

Well, I've never owned an iriver but I have do have friends that are very happy with theirs. I'm not a tech nerd but I've been told by many tech nerds that microsoft based music players will eventually not be able to play any song unless it was paid for. I've never looked into this but I wouldn't put it past them. I don't know if this would happen to older players through a firmware upgrade or not. Also, I would never buy a player made out of plastic.

i have been told that apple is prettty anal retentive about keeping ipod prices the same across the board.

of course i have not investigated this claim... but if it is true (anyone care to back it up?) then that would mean that the ipods at the apple store in COEX would be the same pretty much anywhere.

for comparison, i bought my 30gig ipod photo for 35,000 yen in a shop in shinjuku, tokyo, much like any yongsan-style market. it was about 20 yen more expensive than the one at the apple store.

so... shop around. a good place to look at prices for all 'emart/yongsan' style places is http://enuri.com. it's a price comparer/shopping website or something.

you have to have a little bit of hangeul skill for this. hint - do a search. the search field on that site is in the upper right hand corner and it's got a greyish hue to it.

and - if you get an ipod, get APPLECARE. also find out where your nearest service center is. as awesome as they are, they do crash and *beep* up. PM me for the service center in yongsan, that guy told me where the one near my house is.
