I found this on EFL-Law's forum, and I thought it would be interesting to quote here. The actual topic he was speaking to wasn't interesting to me, but the stats he mentioned about how many people contact him daily was quite interesting.

There seems to be a lot of sinning on both sides.

In my past experiences when I was on the other side, I had no idea how much crap that teachers give out, from the pre-hiring process antics all the way to post-contract. This site hears the one-sided gripes against schools, but I can't begin to tell you how much crazy stuff teachers do, not to mention how much more they screw schools and recruiters over, vs them get screwed from schools and teachers. It really surprised the hell out of me. That's the #1 reason why I'm so cynical when people talk union or put up blacklists on here.

I have some friends from different recruiting companies. I've heard stories from their side, too.

I always tell them to make it painfully obvious that the teacher is on his/her own once the contract starts. You're there to give advice, but you're not responsible for problems that develop between the school and the teacher. Recruiters should make it known that they are merely the messenger. Unfortunately, they feel it's necessary to "sell" their agency as a trustable organization who will "be there for you." I feel building trust is important, but be point-blank honest about how the teaching experience will, in large part, be what they make of it.

I have yet to take a job just because the recruiter made a better promise of "being there for" me once the job started. I take jobs because the money, hours, and school appeal to me in various ways.

Recruiters shouldn't promise any more than that they are the link to a job -- not a source for handling complaints if it doesn't work out.

paedophile teachers -Heard of it happening. But, everyday?
teachers not paying massive phone bills -Definitely heard of it.
teachers doing a MNR owing credit card money -Sounds plausible.
teachers not paying their lawyers-Good for them.
teachers taking the free ticket to Korea to work but simply disappearing on arrival (i.e, a free ticket to Korea)-Seen it happen. Even saw two guys go back to Newfoundland 48 hrs later after one weekend in Korea!
