I don't find newbie questions or posts annoying --- generally. If I see a question that I know is covered in the FAQ or one that has been asked dozens of times already, I try to keep the urge to offer a snide response in check. I'm happy to help when I can. Sometimes I have plenty of free time on my hands during the day (especially during the accursed GEPIK camps) and post a lot. Other times I'm busy with having a life and don't post much. If someone asks a question that I am able to answer, but someone one has beaten me to it, there doesn't seem to be much point to jumping in and re-answering it, unless I have something pertinent to add to the answer that has already been given or feel that misleading information has been given.

I also don't mind when newbies share their impressions. There is a difference between someone saying that they find orange vinyl couches tacky and someone proclaiming after three short weeks that they know what ails Korean culture and just how to fix it. What does annoy me is when someone shares an impression that is less than positive, be it the driving that goes on here or the lack of... whatever, he or she is likely to get jumped on by 'the cluster." And then, it goes predictably downhill from there, with each side chiming in and the poor OP either not knowing what hit him/her or wondering if the folks on Dave's are truly a motley band of dim-witted, fairly dangerous lunatics.

As far as post counts are concerned, I have no idea what my own count is; nor do I much care. I can almost see turtle or someone like him hastening to check on it for me. Please...don't touble yourself on my account. I also don't know what other people's post counts are and have little interest in knowing that either. It's just not that important to me. Some of the most consistently idiotic posts here are made by people whose names I see frequently. Some of the most insightful and/or entertaining posts are made by people whose names I wish I saw more often. The people who offer what I feel is trustworthy information are not always the most visible posters.

There can be a "we-are-in-the-loop-and-you-are-not" feeling on this board from time to time. A few posters seem to feel that they are somehow superior to others by sheer virtue of longevity. Suppose one were to take the opposing view??

Why would you think I would bother to look at your post count?

Do you think I have nothing better to do today?

I have a 4000 word paper due tomorrow...

*can you tell I am procrastinating?*

Actually, what's more annoying is when someone from Ohio or Michigan comes to Korea for the first time, and proceeds to whine about all the spitting, all the bad drivers, and all the wife-beating here, as if he/she expects everyone to agree with this like it's a totally new and fresh take on the subject. And then, it goes predictably downhill from there, with the old-timers left wondering if all the newbies on Dave's really are just a band of dim-witted, whiny gits who couldn't find their ass with either hand if you drew them a roadmap.

This website has helped me a lot over the last year. I quit two jobs and I'm currently looking for another and some people have been great in the advice that they have given me. I say leave the counts where they are and maybe open up a newbee discussion board? Just my opinion.

Actually just checking the latest from the wire, it looks like Derrek currently holds the top spot with 3376, but if you also add his posts from his Gollum sock, the total is over 4400.

Actually I've found Tiger Beer to have 3778 and Rapier to have 3696. Of course that doesn't incude the socks!!

Seventy posts, you say turtle? Astonishing... I would have thought far fewer than that. I must be more prolific than I ever dreamed of...

Thanks so much for checking on that for me. You never fail to disappoint. I knew I could count on you. Or rather you could count on me.

As for the Corp, one person's annoyance is another person's amusement. I find the newbies, in general, to be amusing and rather endearing in their naivety. You don't seem to share that view. Something wrong with folks from Ohio or Michigan, by the way? Are they worse than Floridians or Londoners? Just curious.

Your post count is low therefore your statements, suggestions and desires may safely be ignored by those of us with stratospheric post counts.

Yep. Calypso was having 'one of those days'.

I guess one could ask whether your opinion has changed in that time.

let's face it. this is a never-ending cycle. the fresh batch of noobs each year will ask noob questions without doing research first. I'm guilty of that but at the same time I consider myself devoting even more time searching this forum and outside resources to get my answers.
