Bulsajo's link is just as good. It's free, legal, and it can save documents in Word format.

If you really really have your heart set on it, you can order it from Amazon or Ebay. It'll run you up to 400 bucks or so for MS Office 2003.

It's probably available on several torrents sites, as well.

If you download it via a torrent site, make sure you have a good virus scanner. Don't install anything exes from a torrent site unless you do a virus scan. The suckers are typically loaded with a trojan.

The standard edition of Office goes for about us$250 on amazon.com. You don't really need the $400 professional version unless you're creating databases and stuff.

$250 does still seem like a lot to pay for a word procesor. I was lucky that I had a friend in Seattle who worked at MSFT and he could pick me up a copy from the company store for $35. But then your $250 does come with a lot of cool free stuff from the MS site... fonts, templates, macros, html tools, etc. If you use Word to earn freelance income, it's certainly worth it in the long run. But if you're just looking to type letters or write the great ESL novel, then go with openoffice.

If you're at a school, you might find that the computer studies department has MS Office, which, if you ask nicely with a box of ddeok on top, they might let you borrow to install on your computer.

This is not what happened to me, but the computer guy who installed MS Office on my school computer showed me the discs, so I know the school has them - there's also an extra disc for English language display.
