I use tabbed browsing in firefox but sometimes I have two windows open -one in each monitor. This is useful when doing online editing of my website and I want to see two different sites without having to switch tabs or use alt+tab to toggle windows.

Like Superhero said, sometimes you want to see and compare different things so some firefox windows go on the right monitor and some on the left and things can be compared.

But last night I was just opening as many windows as possible.

Seeing as everyones so happy to show off what they've got thought I'd ask what you actually use it all for?

I'm looking forward to hearing some worthwhile uses for all this power, though what I expect I'm going to be hearing is downloading porn, listening to mp3's and watching DivX. Please tell me I'm wrong, and that some of you have worthwhile uses for all this tech.

It'd make me feel so much better about society.

It's not what you've got it's how you use it. Understandibly if you've got a lot you can use it in very imaginative ways. But do you?

Do you realy do all of the activities on such a regular basis that you can justify such power? More to the point if you realy think that you do, why haven't you got your hard disks raided, would help with the video editing. Making websites doesn't sound like a reason to have such a machine.

Agree'd, but what isn't better in Opera?
I never understood why it wasn't more popular than FireFox, <opinion> cause it's certainly a more function packed customizable browser.</opinion>

I really do those activities on a regular basis and typically have 10 or so windows open at any time.

I'll put you down as a half, being as I know how Video editing can be a pain on a medicore machine if you do it 'all' the time.

Can anyone else come near giving valid productive reasons for their vastly over spec'd machines?

Poor timing. The hot new browser that was out the same time bittorrent became really popular and everyone started spreading the word was Firefox, not Opera. Too bad Firefox is not really that hot. The plugin customizability with Firefox is okay, but most of the plugins that come out are crap and useless, anyway.

My machine is not over specced. It's a pentium 4 1.8 GHz mobile laptop with 128 MB of RAM blah blah generic whatnots. Trigem branded. J7 series, it says. It's a glorified wordprocessor, and I use it as such. WinXP pretty much requires the resources this laptop provides to just boot up and eke out some workability. God forbid that you actually try to have a browser window, the word processor, windows explorer, and one other program (doesn't matter what) running at the same time. Switch to another window and you have to wait for a few minutes for it to pop up. I blame it on misuse of system resources by the programs - bad coding.

At least it's not page layout. That's pretty intensive.

So what are you running? Sparcstation?
