my friend just went to the kbstar in itaewon and they told her that foreigners aren't allowed to have international bank cards anymore. there was too much money laundering going on. anyway, i think this is the stupidest thing i've ever heard, i mean in all honesty, won't we use the bank cards more? has anyone else heard about this? |

Too much money laundering going on???
What a joke.
And this will stop the money launders from just getting their Korean friends to open accounts for them?
Sometimes I think there's a conspiracy in this country to screw foreigners. |

Money laundering? Ha!
They just don't want foreigners using their ATMs to bypass international transfer fees. That, and amounts that low aren't easily tracked.
I wish USA banks would reciprocate and not allow Koreans to use their cards overseas. |

I received my Nongyup international card this January, works fine. Money laundering seems like a silly reason-- you can't exactly transfer millions through a bank card. There might be other politics involved.

It's a KB policy only as far as I know. I got a new one from KEB about a month ago, and a credit card from them that works internationally. |

i third that. KB gave me an international bank card, but they refused to give me a check card, even though i've been there for a year.
i immediately left and opened an account at woori; they not only gave me a check card, they implied i could also get a secure visa.
it's a shame, because su hui was so nice to me when i wired money home at my local KB... one employee who really has experience dealing with foreigners tho the bank she works for gnaws on my balls. |

I had accounts with Hana Bank and Kookmin bank and neither of them would give me an international card. Then i decided to go to Citibank and they told me the same thing.
I had to resort to getting an account in the name of the wife of one of my Korean male friends and trust them with my moolah. Thankfully he was a trustworthy sort. |

This comes up every so often.
I have international cards from Shinhan and Woori, the former for nearly 7 years.
I used both in April, no problems. It soemtimes tales a while to find a "compatible" ATM. |

I've got a KB card and it's worked in Canada for the last 10 months. |

I have had them twice from Nonghyup. The second time, they made some sort of fuss about it and said they weren't giving them out anymore. I threatened to blow up the building, presto, international card for me! |

I have international cards from Woori, Industrial Bank, and Citibank. All of them work out of country. I also have a master card that was issued by the Industrial Bank and it works out of country. I've used them all as far away as Egypt
