my school finally decided to try its new aircon yesterday. Now this school is over 45 years old, so you'd think that they had put the air con on new breakers.

You'd be wrong.

After 30 minutes we heard a sound like glass breaking. the poewr goes out and a whole bunch of teachers are running downt he corridor. Turns out it was the schools fuses going so the whole place was without power for 90 minutes yearsday.

I taught in a really wealthy school in China, the students parents were reeeeeiiiiiiiicccchhh!, they owned hotels and huge businesses etc etc,
Anyhow, the school wouldnt spring for air conditioning anywhere except the office, so that meant we had to spend a killer chinese summer with temps upto and beyond 40. C with nothing but ceiling fans.
Of course the windows had to be open to prevent fan death.
At least if it gets to hot back home we send our kids home.

Hey, at least it was an even cluster *beep*.

Today in my school only one air con broke, and just guess which classroom that was in.

After one hot hot class, I said *beep* it and organised the students into a raiding party and took over the library and it's air con and taught the rest of my classes there.

Sorry for all the swearing, but you just try to teach a class of 40 Korean high schoolers in a non-air conditioned classroom in the middle of summer.

They tried aircon again and sure enough the power went off.

One class I just about threw up my boys were stinking so bad.

I remember when I worked in Redmond, Washington. Office space was at a premium. At some point they put my department and a couple others in a warehouse. It wasn't the best insulated place and it was winter. Granted winters in Seattle aren't Canada brutal but you know women. They feel a slight breeze and they're throwing on a parka. Anyway this one woman would come in to work about 30 minutes after I arrived. She'd dutifully plug in her little space heater. And then without fail, the circuit breaker would cut out 15 minutes later. And there goes all the power for your PC.

No one knew she was using the space heater. After about two weeks of this, WE made the connection. "Hey, have you noticed we get that mysterious power outage about 15 minutes after Julie gets to work?"

Hrm. Winter. Chick. Space heater! Bingo.

Why the hell she couldn't put two and two together is beyond me.
