What should they read?
I thought about Calvin and Hobbes and Peanuts, but beyond comic books what is simple enough for them to understand, yet appropriate to their age level?
A lot of my middle school students are at picture book English levels, but they don't want to read The Hungry Caterpillar. |

Have a look at the Penguin Readers they are for all levels and ages. They also come with a cassette or CD.

Oxford Bookworm series have a lot of books for teenagers. They are cheap and easily available in Korea. They also have good titles eg. Alice in Wonderland. They are heavily abridged(is this the correct word?) or simplified and shortened. |
