My iPod is 8 months old, bought in the States.
Just yesterday when I turned it on, it did a lot of whirring, like the hard disk was spinning, the apple logo came on, but then it turned back off. It's plugged in, so it's not a power issue.
a) anyone know how to fix this please?
b) anyone know if Apple Korea will fix this for me?
Also where is Apple Korea?
Thanks |

firstly go to www.apple.com and check the support pages. there are troubleshooting documents for ipod available online.
depending on what yu find there yu may have to go to apple service centre. the main one is at yongsan, in the ET-land building, 3F. there is also a branch on the 7th or 8th floor of technomart. yu can find the exact address and contact details on the apple website.
the whirring sound is not good. did yu drop it? if yu think yu did, for heaven's sake do not tell the service centre that yu think yu did as it will void your warranty. just tell them it stopped working. i dropped my ipod HARD and completely fucked it but apple replaced it. (actually on that occasion i did tell them that i had dropped it, but the man in technomart said "no you didn't" and winked at me as he filled out the service report.) |

If the problems continue, take it to the Apple Store in the Coex Mall in Kangnam. I met someone who said he took his there and they repaired it, gave it back a few days later. |

I label this thread exhibit A in the debate over hd-based players vs. flash players.
I'm on my third flash player but my first one is still going strong 6 years after buying it, my wife uses it every day.
Anyway, hope you get it fixed without having to pay too much. |

Agreed. Bought my gf a new Mini-Ipod after her 1 1/2 year-old I-pod died. Gosh, I wish she wanted something else, but she had to have that darned menu to mess with.
They said it would cost more than a new I-pod to fix her old one.
I don't expect this one to last long, either. Hard Drives are still too fragile. |

the HD on the ipod is pretty tough. you don;t have to treat it so carefully - just don't drop it on a tiled floor from a great height like i did.
i'd prefer flash memory too but only if it had the same capacity. my ipod is only 10gig and i wish i had more. i keep it packed with music and also use it as an external hard disk drive... that way i can download movies on the work computer, transfer them to my ipod, take them home and watch them there.
my ipod is more than 2 years old now and in perfect condition. as i said, i dropped my first ipod - dropped it damn hard, and they replaced it no problem... that was over 2 years ago. i use it about 3 hours every day. the battery life is shorter than a flash player (about 6 to 8 hours) but i rarely run out.
i'm saving up for the 60gig model. the external HD factor is important to me. i can also download photos off my digital camera directly onto my ipod.. and with the 60gig model actually view them on the colour screen. |

Thanks for the replies,
I didn't actually drop it at all, and it's always in it's case.
But I have been going through a run of bad luck with technology; My scooter, xbox and iPod all failed in the same week, and I also lost my new phone (can't blame the last one on anyone but me though)
I will try the Yongsan center first, and see if i can get my xbox done at the same time.
Thanks |

one more thing: make sure you always remove your ipod from your computer properly! |
