Hi

I'm waiting on sealed transcripts to be sent from my uni and my degree is being "held" at immigration. Should I be worried at all? The school delivered my documents including official transcripts to immigration last friday and then found out that the transcripts were not legit if not in an envelope.

My friend told me that a few months ago the immigration office actually lost her original degree! I think they took responsibility for it though, but I'm hoping this is not a common problem. Any comments?

Better order a new degree/transcript set.

I don't see how they could or would "take responsibility" for losing something. No way.

What would they do? Pay you money for it? Not likely.

If youre waiting for visa applications then immigration will need to have your degree cert to compare with your (valid) transcripts when they arrive. I was told that the names have to match exactly, and if they dont then you need a special letter from your uni verifying the identities are the same.

The whole transcripts thing is a fairly wise move. BUT

at the same time, it is an attempt to make the shortcomings of the korean educational system look like the foreigners fault. "if only we had properly qualified foreign teachers, everything would be fine".

They should be looking at reform of the system here, not hammering foreigners for extra pieces of paper.
