Have you ever wondered why, in those big mass demonstrations in downtown Seoul, Tehran, etc. when the crowds shout "Yankee go home!", "Kill the Great Satan!" they don't tear up, say a Time magazine, burn a pair of blue jeans, stomp on a roll of Charmin or throw a hamburger at the embassy? It's because no one cares. Flags are burned because some Americans get pissed off at it. If no one got upset, they'd have to get creative and find some other way to protest.
So I say, if we want to screw with the foreigners heads, we adopt a constitutional amendment declaring stomping on Charmin illegal. It would do wonders for the company's bottom line, improve our foreign trade balance and make the foreigners look silly. |

Yeah, it's kind of obvious- so much so that you have to wonder why the House hasn't tried the ol' reverse-psychology approach and voted for a "it's no biggie" amendment regarding flag burning. |

Simple cowardice from our lawmakers is what will get this amendment through. There are some conservatives and liberal legislators who'll vote no just out of principle, but the majority of them will vote for it because that's the less politically costly thing to do.
All too typical. |

If this ammendment were a part of the constitution now, Bush would be a law breaker:

I'm sure congress would soon pass a law under the amendment's "Congressional power of enforcement" clause to make it a crime to desecrate or criticize the President. So this post would be a crime. People gave their lives defending the President yaddie yaddi... |

What if a portion of this legislation required flag burners to burn the flag of at least one foreign country when they burned the American flag? The results would be interesting, no? |

Except for a rise in the number of French flags sold, I can't think of any other change. |
