Do Not have anything to do with a man named, CHIRL JAE LEE. This guy is a shady recruiter who will lie to you and say he works for the school that he is trying to get you to work at, as the school's director.

Also, out of the 10 interviews I've had with schools over the past 3 days, please don't even WASTE YOUR TIME going to Seokgye English Friends school. It's Kindergarten split shifts, and they lie and say it's Elementary school to get you to go out. Total waste of time. Also, the owner of this school just wreaked of being a slime ball. Got terrible vibes. Just a total snake.

Just a couple of things to look out for if I can save anyone else some time, you guys have been great.

I got an email or two from that guy before (Chirl Jae Lee). He's a recruiter and just uses "Seoul Academies" as his business, which could mislead someone into thinking that was a chain. It isn't. It's various schools.

Wow, Pootie. Thanks for the heads up. He's been recruiting me as the director of a school in Taebaek. How'd you figure out he was bogus?

On a side note, I've got to say he's provided me some humor. He's called me several times to say, "I sent you an email 5 minutes ago. Please respond." (But he actually has to say this to me about 5 times before I understand what he's saying.)

Everyone has been really awesome on this board, and in a few days I will compose a long letter describing everything you need to know about coming to Korea and finding the best teaching situation for yourself, the only thing I can write about now, is NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER,use a recruiter. Please trust me on this as "you" have helped me and I want to help others, just trust me, and I'll write more later...I've learned a lot in the last 4 days after reaching Korea, it's amazing...I'll try to compose everything I've learned into one message. All I can say is I have no experience teaching foreign language, I'm 23 years old from the US, and I landed a job for 3.2 with paid housing by coming to Korea and simply walking around. I will write much more later, as I would not even have been in this country if it wasn't for the support and information that I have already received on this board that made me buy my own ticket and come over. To sum up what I have learned, and this is going to shock some, if you except a job for ANYTHING LESS THAN 3.0 for 30 hours, you are being played, I'll try to compose a message explaining step by step how to accomplish this, but I'll save it for tomorrow, because I want to organize everything I've experienced and went through so that other Westerners are not taken advantage of, it's a joke. Complete wool over our eyes. I had 2 options for 3.2 and chose the one with nicer housing. I'll try to organize my thoughts later...please stay tuned...this may change everything...

Further more I don't even have a certificate, and if asked if I had teaching experience, I said I tutored math in high school. The job I accepted was to teach middle school students and high school.

Well I know I can't wait.

Just think of the secrets you'll have uncovered after eight days in Korea. That may change everything again!

Yes, please do. I want to believe you. I really do. It's just that I don't. In fact, if what you wrote is true, I may want to be you?

How about some specifics which can be verified? Names of schools. Telephone numbers. Contact persons at the schools. Teaching conditions. Housing conditions. Contracts. Work visas. Severance.

Until you do, sadly you cannot be the hero I want you to be. Please don't disappoint me.

I'll try to write a complete essay on it on Sunday as I've been totally too busy today, but don't want to miss anything important. Sadly, you gotta be as shady as the hogwans are, but you're here to make money, right?

A "shady" hero?

Sounds like my hero is getting ready to disappoint me. I was so hoping this was the real thing. It's just that there have been so many false heroes before.

Where's a real hero when you need one?

Oh yes- i had a narrow escape from Chirl Jae lee. I was all set for interview until he at last minute informed me that I would be teaching saturdays as well, and would I do a demonstration lesson at the interview? I never showed up and eventually his dissapointed calls ceased. I mean, a demonstration lesson? this is Korea for pity's sake, I could get a job, sight unseen, even if I was a mentally defective axe mudererer with two heads...
Ultimately the safest way is what i did- line up a job to take over from a trusted friend, at a hagwon they said was OK.

I would never ever believe Pootie getting 3.2 in korea, plus housing. Pootie is blowing smoke.

Possibly, possibly not....

Either way, I've decided against committing to a contract first through a UK recruiter (sorry HuntESL!) I am simply going to jump on a plane to SoKo in a month or so, and spend a couple of weeks sussing out my new home to be and approaching the schools direct. It didn't even occur to me how much more sensible this would be, rather than putting my welfare in the hands of someone else. I feel much happier about doing things this way.

So thanks Pootie!
