How comfortable are they talking with your friends (native English speakers)? Also, how well can they communicate, understand and follow a conversation..??

I'm lucky my wonderful girlfriend speaks almost perfect English. The only communication problems are with her sense of humour as she has a wacky Btitish sense of humour and some of my NA mates dont get the sarcasm

Love her to bits. A funny sexy chick so she is.

She did however spend a long time in the UK and worked really hard at learning all the subtle points of the language-culture.

Fine. English is my husband's 3rd foreign language (French and German being 1st and 2nd) but he is fluent... he makes some grammatical and pronunciation mistakes because he tends to think in French.. so instead of saying medicine, he says medicament...

Anyway.. he likes talking with my friends.. who are also his friends, really, because we met them together. As for listening.. unless you have a strong accent, he is a pretty good listener. He is too used to my crisp British accent though , so Northern American accents can sometimes be tough for him.

My wife usually has no poblems... except for the fact that hse says I hog the conversation.

She can follow the conversation and take the lead of it if the topic interests her.

I'm proud to say that when I met my wife she was a beginner and struggling to say "Hello, how are you?"; These days she gets comments from people who are surprised to learn that she wasn't born in Canada.
I'd like to think it is due to the amazing skill and technique of her teacher ( ) but the truth is she's got a knack for it.
And she speaks a little French now too.

She's fine. The Australian accent threw her off at first, but she caught on quite quickly. I don't subject her to nights out with my friends very often. That's my special time to talk sports and swap manly stories, and generally by the end of the night I'M the one who's unable to communicate effectively.

My husband really can't speak English and is usually very reserved around my friends the first time he meets them. But he's a "Chuncheon province boy" by nature, so he's basically reserved and traditional around Koreans as well. He communicates well through non-verbal means though with my friends, which I adore. He loves hanging out with foreign guys (his Korean friends are a bit older and, um, more boring). He told me he likes how kickback foreign guys are. Once he gets a few beers in his system, he'll want to play card games or darts with my friends, or he'll teach them some martial arts moves. He's a real guys' guy. He's not a talker with my female foreign friends....but he's always been shy around girls. Why he was attracted to a loudmouth lass like me, I still don't understand

My Korean is still pretty crap, but I try to learn. We just achieved a balance of the two languages(well, more Korean), plus a variety of nonsensical words/phrases created by us.
