I really enoyed my time there. Especially those spicy bright green weiners that look like the Incredible Hulk's wang. And the Cazy Limo. That was good too. |

I always thought Everland was Konglish...thinking Korean, speaking English. Akin to 'always' or 'forever' with the 'fun' understood.
It reminds me of a Korean nickname I have. One of my friends calls me "The Sheriff" because I know all the cheap places to drink in town, a la Matt Dillon or Wyatt Earp. Later, a new friend started calling me "The Endless Sheriff". I have never had the heart to tell him it doesn't mean anything in English because it almost does. And it sounds cool. |

Peter Pan is well known to Koreans, and many twentysomething Korean men have the Peter Pan syndrome of refusing to grow up, so...
maybe "Everland" is supposed to be "Neverland".
I also recall some Christian back home talking about heaven as an "everland", a term with a long ecumenical history, so...
maybe "Everland" was chosen by a Korean Christian.
(Speculation.) |

Been to that festival maaaany times, inevitably with a date but it's always my idea to go. Yeah, ڿ was a pretty rustic approach to what we'd call an amusement park in the West, all full of picnicking ajummas, kimbab and warm beer. I remember eating (wild boar) under a giant canopy and watching on a stage singing the songs that made the gold-toothed ajosshis sitting around me get up and do a little jig, a little foxtrot, whatever, with their arms up in the air, pulling the ajummas along with them. Funny, soju-fied days.
The Rose Festival was started in the mid-80s by Samsung founder Lee Byung-chull, who was something of a weekend horticulturist if I remember correctly. Now they've got a Tulip Festival and some other year-round gardens as well. There are many things I want to steal from there. |
