Hi guys,
I'ma bit worried.
I only have one lesson tomorrow which means I havent bothered planning as much as I would normally. I'm in a middle school and the girls have exams in 2 days time so I've kept it pretty low key.
The topic is music. We start by singing the two songs we learnt recently (so 10mins there) then we listen to some different types of music, pop, classical, rnb, dance, jazz and rock.
The students then say if they like or don't like each type and if possible give a reason (too loud too slow too boring etc.) then they spend a while interviewing their friends.
Finally I have a sheet for their groups (they are in groups of 6) where they design a band. Style of music, who is in it(boy/girl?) name of band+ name of song and why their band is going to be great. If they have time they can make an album cover.
Problem is they are low level and I have a nasty feeling that they are gonna run dry on vocab immediately. Any ideas how I can help them with the last task?

| What about downloading band reviews or album covers from the Internet and reading thorough them and then pick out key vocab? |

| If they are too low to be able to do that last task, why not change the task? What vocab do they know? How about have them design a costume for one female singer and one male singer. Include hairstyle. |

Split them into partners. Give each set a different pop song. Partner A is the reader/speaker. Partner B is the writer/listener.
They face each other.
Partner A reads the song to Partner B, who must write down everything. Partner B can ask anything, spelling, repeat, etc. At the end of a certain amount of time, all papers are collected. The partners with the most correct words (in correct order, correct spelling, etc) are the winners.
This will often get even the quiet ones speaking up because if they don't, they can't be heard and they all want to win. Plus, since so many people are speaking and no one is really paying attention to anyone except her partner, the shy one won't feel as shy. This is great for listening as there will be so many other students doing the except same thing and everyone has to listen carefully to only her own partner.
I walk around with a red pen and make a mark on the paper of any team I hear using Korean. For every mark, I deduct one point later when checking papers.
Negative: It can get very, very noisy.
Pros: It's a lot of fun and within a team, there is speaking, listening, reading, and writing going on. I've done this with tough crowds and it has always been a winner.
Sidenote: This can also be done with poetry, reading selections, vocabulary/definition lists, etc. |

| Why not go aver some basic vocab during the lesson. They can use what they've learned. |

I think thats what i'll do. Go over the different things which make up a band and get them to choose 1 thing for their band to focus on.
We're gonna go over the words used to describe each type of music when we listen to them so it should be ok. I just like to have super clear plans when i go into a lesson  |
