I have been teaching at my current school for almost a year now. I love the teachers and Korean staff that work with me. I have signed a new contract to start one month after my old contract. This means I go to Canada for a few weeks (it's quite common for our teachers to go back home between contracts). The problem that I'm facing is that our current director has decided to leave due to conflicts with our head office. He just told us yesterday that he is leaving the end of the week. He's a great guy but I guess not one for giving much notice. From what I understand my contract should still hold weight, because our school is controlled from a head office and we get various directors along the way (we've had 3 directors since I started), but I guess that could change.

What can I do to make sure the contract still holds true even after our director leaves and a new director takes his place?

I haven't asked for a raise in pay, so the contract has been remained basically the same as the previous contract. I guess the only problem I can forsee is that I will be leaving during the summer break... usually when the school is the busiest (and I already dropped $300US on Phish tickets for when I go home). They might want me to stay, but of course I'd rather go home at that time (just as every other teacher has in the past).

I understand that a contract means nothing in some schools. But please if anyone can give me some advice on a least preventing any contract conflicts with the new director,I would appreciate it? Shocked

I think it depends whether this is a change of management or a change of owner.

If the school changes ownership then some contracts state that the contract is void whilst others don't.

Unless your contract states this then I think your contrat should hold as much as it ever did. However, in Korea this might mean very little.

Do you have any reason to believe the new director will have a problem?

I heard some rumors that the new director has a bit more a business oriented personnality. Our old director cared alot about us being happy teachers. I guess that's why head office had problems with his methods.

She (the new director) maybe more of a hard a** about time off by the sounds of things. Summer session is a big money maker at our school too (but usually never a problem getting subs). Our old director even mentioned that she may not like the conditions of our time off between contracts.

My school is not changing owners. Like I said, head office deals with many branches and we just get new directors as we need them. So contracts are assumed not to change, but of course I've seen them revised after a teacher has signed.

Thanks for the info. Any advice is appreciated.
