No
It seems incongruent with the old buildings.
But I wouldn't like anything probably.
I won't be able to look at it without feeling bad. |

The enormous, largely windowless pedestal, added after the New York Police Department insisted the building be more resistant to car and truck bombs, would overlook the Sept. 11 memorial.
The main shaft of the Freedom Tower would begin as a 200-by-200-foot square. As it rose, the corners would be cut away, creating an octagonal floor plan through the middle of the building.
Above an impregnable 200-foot concrete and steel pedestal would rise 69 office floors topped by a restaurant and observation decks. |

If they are going to build it why not build it in poor area of New York thereby providing that areas a much needed boost. Why give a rich area of New York an economic boost when they could help poor areas that need it much more? |

Are those areas guarded well enough? I suspect it would be easy to keep track of people downtown. |

Whatever...as long as, upon completion, they fly 2 jetliners into it to prove it will stand.
Now THAT would be a statement. |

II think what's making the New Plan look good is that the Old Plan looked so random and messy.
I'd have liked faithful replicas of the old towers, even though they would make no financial real estate sense in the current market. |

I like the memorial, not the tower.
Too much like the Tower of Babel. |

Looks good to me--not spectacular, but good. Aesthetically speaking I think it looks more attractive than the WTC ever did, though it doesn't have that memorable 'twin" effect. |

Joo,
I understand what your saying. It's a good thought. But what actually happens in practice in a situation like that is that the real estate owners, who in cities like NYNY get rich off providing subhuman living conditions, get richer, everyone living in their buildings gets evicted and forced to relocate because they can no longer afford the new rent; and all the non-land owning people in the surrounding area are also forced to relocate because the surrounding property value goes up past what they can afford.
Yes, it would be beneficial in terms of raising the local property values and the quality of the neighborhoods; but for the people who live there now it would by and large be catestrophic. There would be exceptions, such as homeowners, but most of the landlords in slums don't actually live in the slums. Slum dwellers do benefit from gradual urban renewel, particularly if it creates jobs that they can qualify for, but massive sudden upgrade of the neighborhoods status generally has an extremely negative impact on the locals.
Actually, if you like, this problem has been summed up rather nicely as a side note in the movie Boyz in the Hood, IMHO one of the few "growing up in the hood" movies that is worth watching. |

I think it looks alright--actually I really like the surrounding buildings--but that spire is ridiculous.
Maybe if they use it to give everyone perfect cell phone reception... |

Thats a good idea but I guess the plan is to show defiance by building again on the same spot. |

A true defiance would be to rebuild both towers but, I think this building looks good. I wish there were more windows in the thing. |
