Chinese Workers Slam Koreans
"Some Korean businessmen are so stingy when it comes down to money business with employees, but they squander money like water and lead an extremely luxurious life," on typical comment read.
Some said the admiration they had for Korea evaporated when they started working in Korean firms. "Some Korean people are so arrogant, they think they are the best in the world," one disgruntled worker said. "They look down on Chinese people because we are poorer. I mainly had contact with Korean women, and they always complain how Chinese products are low in quality, and how Chinese maids are clumsy and lazy."
"Koreans do not seem to earn a lot of money, but they do seem to spend a lot," said another. "Most Korean people have to go somewhere after a meal, no matter what time of the day. They go straight to karaoke parlors and love to drink shooters. Some men go to find prostitutes."

You missed this gem from the article:
"Another worker said Korean business culture is despotic and self-righteous. You are only allowed to say yes to the orders from your boss Bosses go beyond strictness in the way they treat staff. |

There was an infamous case in Shanghai a few years back where a Korean factory manager made her Chinese employees bow down to her. Not a head nod bow, but legs on the floor, head to the ground, imperial bow.
The local authorities hit the roof over that one and gave the Korean factory an oh-so-sweet punishment. They made her get down on her knees and apologize to her employees.
Koreans have a pretty bad reputation among your average Chinese. |

Interesting coincidence reading those comments. I had a class with a Korean businessman last night who was going on about how all Japanese girls are easy and 'fallen women' to put it in his words. Also about how all Chinese women are dirty and ugly. He said that Koreans can always tell which country people come from: Japanese look country and have no individuality or fashion sense; Chinese women look dirty and ugly; Korean women look sophisticated because of their makeup. (All three inches thick of it^^)
He was totally sure that his generalizations were true for all Korean, Japanese and Chinese women. Wow! I had to really hold my tongue for fear of telling him what I thought. |

Sexually liberated= "fallen"
"No individuality"- this is far more applicable to Korean women. Japanese also have a daring and varied fashion sense. Koreans are of a type. |

My opinion exactly although of course I didn't mention that to my esteemed and oh-so-knowledgeable student, who also passed rather disparaging remarks about all English teachers in Korea. REmarks of the variety that almost no English teacher in Korea has a degree nor can they teach. Needless to say he is not one of my favorite students. |

Its kinda funny - those generalisations that people from Asia cast on each other.
I will never forget what a student from Taiwan told me when I told him that I was coming to Korea to teach - this was almost six years ago.
He told me that many Taiwanese believed that Koreans 'lacked a soul' - he said this for two reasons.
First, Koreans have been trodden on by many of its neighbours in Asia. After getting beaten up so much - it must be a soul destroying experience.
He said that Koreans are also so conditioned to following others advice/orders/opinions that there own dreams and aspirations had vanquished or were never there to start with. If you don't have life dreams then spiritually your dead....
And my encounters with Koreans over the last years, esp, the female kind - leads me to think back to what he said and think that he has some pretty good points. |

And that is your mistake. Learn how to place your points into the conversation. Don't be afraid. What was your personal reason not to?? |

Did he really say that to you? What a rude *beep*. Did you ask him if that's the case, why he's spending his money taking your lessons?
I agree with Weatherman. If your students say something you don't like, don't be afraid to challenge them on it. |
