Jaykimf,
sound advice, but how would I communicate with the school principle if I don't speak any Korean? I'm guessing their level of English would not be very high as a general rule. |
At my school the principal, vice principal and former principal all speak good English . I've met other principals that also speak good English, so the odds are not as bad as what you might guess. Of course there are also many with very limited or no English, but they should at least be able to understand that you're looking for a job and they could have one of the English teachers translate as necessary. Or, instead of approaching the principal directly you could first approach the head English teacher. Or before you actually go to apply, try to meet any of the teachers and just be friendly and then ask if their school has any plans to hire a foreigner. |

| This is a question that I am very interested in (coming to teach in Korea soon and searching for that perfect place of employment) so I hope more answers keep on coming! |

| I've worked at a Hagwon (SLP) and at a Private High School. Working for a private school has by far been a better place to work, in my experience. It has really helped change my opinion of South Korea. I'm glad I came back, otherwise I'd have a pretty poor opinion of the country. I didn't exactly have major problems with the Hagwon I worked for, I just felt like an English *beep*. I am very happy at the High School I work for. Being a private school, they have more control over curriculum, contracts, and all of the things that are most important to us. In addition I don't have to deal with other issues that people may have in public schools (cutting vacation time, reviews, etc). |

Lol I didn't stick university in as I'm looking to get feedback for my job next year. Its showing the same info as I expected. I'm enjoying EPIK but i think the additional flexibility being hired directly by the school is the biggest bonus out there.
Reckon with 18 months experience I could get into a decent state school job independantly of epik? (i'd prefer state to private, due to me morals wanting an kid to benefit). |

You forgot to mention "Male Host Bar Worker" in your poll.
I'm making millions of won per week, and the women PAY for dates. Many of them are hard-up, and rarin' to go! Kimchi-breath aside, it's a good gig. No national health insurance, though. My boss's idea of health insurance is to "wrap it."
Grotto and Canucksaram joined me working here recently, and started taking many of my best customers, however I know I will charm them into returning to me. Grotto and Canucksaram are merely the "flavors of the week."
I've been toying with the thought of sending some "discount coupons" to a couple of the wives of certain immigration officials on floor #2.
(oh, OK... this post is fake -- I admit it!) |
I know a lifeguard (Korean guy) who teaches swimming lessons, mostly to bored housewives and older women. He charges the older women for sex. |
