good morning.
hypothetically speaking, its 6:30am. my 8:00am private calls and cancels. should i charge him for this? let's say this gig is through an agent. I report monthly to this agency, and they pay me, not the student. Let's say this is a pretty big corporation that i go to and teach. the agency is small.
if this situation were real, should i charge them. what do you think?

since it's through an agent, I probably would. Depends on my relationship with the students. |

Hypothetically speaking, a teacher would have established hypothetical rules about this situation before the job started.
I would say 1 1/2 hours notification before said teacher did any travel time is sufficient. Good faith effort on the student's part. Offer to re-schedule. |

That's what I would say as well. As long as you are not on the way out the door, then it's not a big deal unless you plan your day around the private.
Since it's the first time to happen, you should set some rules with the company next time you teach there. |

Well, yes and no.
If for example you had truned down another lesson (contract) for the same time then you have suffered a loss. In addition, it is an invitation for subsequent "no-shows".
My guess is notice of 24 hours should be acceptable. |

If it is a one time thing, I would let it slide.
Any more than that and it'd be 24 hours notice. |
