I like my flag. I never get the two mixed up, I can count, and I'm not color blind!

I'm embarrassed to say that I was born in New Zealand and have lived in Australia on and off (along with many other countries) and I can't remember which flag is which.

Sad but true...I also have short term memory loss.

Nah I dont really care to much to be honest. I dont mind that our flag is similar to Aussie, it bugs me more when people ask how long it takes to drive from Auckland to Sydney over that "big bridge". Geez get a clue!!

Or when people ask if the 'natives' are hostile.

Plain stupidity... really...

I'm lazy enough to reveal that I didn't look at all the replies. Couldn't care less would be answer about the flags.
Would prefer many other flags though, the Eureka Stockage Flag is a good one, a symbol of rebellion against the British monarchy & all their effete trappings.

I like my Australian flag very much i consider the New Zealanders almost brothers so have similar flags is cool....

I wouldn't mind another flag so much but some of the designs they come out with are terrible....


This was going to be the one that replaced the flag if it was approved....piss that off

Why don't they just use this for Australia? It's what it is meant to be.

But no... Everytime stuff like this happens we get a long public submissions period because some up themselves intellectual reckons that there is something wrong with things that are part of our heritage.

Like the "Waltzing Matilda" vs that piece of crap national anthem "Advance Australia Fair" that uses the word "girt."

What the hell were they thinking?

Somewhat humorous, and possibly prophetic as well, with mention of Tama Iti��s marksmanship upon the Australian flag. Did he score a bulls-eye?

Here��s one scenario.

Consider that Australia��s public opinion about remaining tenuously tied to the Monarchy, and general consensus weighted toward a republic, NZ still supports a majority consensus to uphold the status quo. Although New Zealanders�� are proud of their ��heritage�� and national identity, what would happen if NZ became a state of Australia?

NZ shares a long history with Australia through the A.N.Z.A.C alliance. having seen a combined involvement in both World wars and others. In this scenario, would there even be a need to change anything flag-wise since, US states of the union also have identifying seals/flags?

It��s important to mention that NZ is fully capable and autonomous in regards to 911 stuff. That tragedy, would, be difficult to replicate since NZ agencies routinely communicate between themselves. Even books that advocate international clandestine travel, note NZ immigration is ��always�� interested in knowing about who is visiting them.

There also exists a correlating track record for isolating and busting Terror Cells; tracking down French Agents (Rainbow Warrior) and recently during 2004, an Israeli Mossad secret service cell attempting to purloin NZ passports. Since NZ has a respected and peaceful reputation world-wide, possession of a NZ passport has become highly prized and advantageous to the "hiding in the shadows" set.

NZ��s security effectiveness has been proven on many occasions when the, not so secret agents, and ��political stirrers��, were collared by ordinary NZ detectives each and every time. In this respect, security homeland issues can clearly be maintained to enable preservation of private property and law and order.

If there is truth behind NZ having sold its navy, and airforce; this can only be in speculative anticipation of closer ties between the two countries with coordinated resource and information sharing. Also, where countries harbor US surveillance stations located in Pine Ridge (Aus) and Blenheim(NZ) as part of the ANZUS agreement, thus promises to provide even closer ties between the two neighbors.

In addition, Australia dedicates a generous budget toward maintaining its tactical advantage from perceived threats in the Indonesian region. As a little known result, Australia now possesses one of the world��s truly up-to-date military infrastructure and providing C.O. training at ANU in Canberra, for both countries. Because of this, public knowledge in Australia that NZ has downsized it��s defense capabilities whilst, Australia has upsized theirs, has given Aussie politicians ammunition at home by accusing NZ of sheltering under their protection canopy, gratis.

Under the Patriot Act and the laws moving rapidly toward enhanced security, and tighter geo-political -economic trading blocks, I wonder if Tama Iti now wishes he possessed a cannon at that time. He��d probably have a lot of non-Maori support too.
