You are indeed naive, as any reader of your posts knows. And I'm cynical as well. I don't feel either of those are necessarily bad things. What was your point again?

My point? I have read many of your posts.. likewise you mine. And you know I don't get personal.. because it's not in my nature to get personal. But i think you are a real bi*ch. fullstop.

Good one. I likes it. Now kick her while she's down. That's what I'd do, and I'm not even Korean Surprised .

Anyway...back to the original question. My (Korean) hubby speaks English well with me and people he knows, but can sometimes be intimidated by people he does not know.

We live in the U.S. now and I have seen major improvements in his English since we met almost 4 years ago in Korea. I can't say the same for my Korean these days. Sad. We used to speak about 50/50 English/Korean, but now it's like 80/20 (E/K).

This is a little odd, Corporal is a little bitchy at times, but she's even managed to rile up Tzechuk this time, one of the most mild mannered people on this board.

This is interesting because they are BOTH non-korean females married to Korean guys AND they are both trying to fight stereotypes about foreign women marrying Korean men. Tzechuk is part of an organization which deals with issues which arise in such a marriage and has even been on tv to explain how these kind of marriages work. I think thats cool. Out of interest, are you in any kind of group like that Corporal?

I think Astroboy had valid questions. I have no opinion though since I'm not in his or corps or tzes situation so I shan't make a response.

Tze, on a sidenote, are there many spouses in that group who are guys married to Korean women? If not, why do you think that is the case?

On an even less relevant side note, has there ever been a study done on the korean-language ability of western men with korean wives as opposed to western-women with Korean-husbands? Is there any difference does anyone know?

thats all for now

Aww...that's cute, do people really still define women in terms of b.i.t.c.h or mild mannered? (which is an extremely old-fashioned expression, by the way, that brings to mind the placid temperament of a Holstein)

Why is that interesting? I don't think it's that interesting. Many people have things in common with each other. Is that supposed to guarantee that they get along?

Plus, I don't really consider myself as an active warrior in the battle of fighting stereotypes about foreign women/K-men. I'd be here all day if that were the case.

No.

That's okay, you don't have to be in our situation to comment on it, but I appreciate your reticence anyway.

If there were the same amount of K-women/W-man couplings as W-woman/K-man couplings, then the results of such a study might be relevant.

Hyeon Een-

Why do you sport a crack using prostitute as your avatar? Confused

You should feel sorry for her, not make fun.

Thank you all for your responses. They have been very valuable (except a few posters)

I have to say Corp hit the nail on the head here.

There is a blatant double standard here about mixed couples.
Western guys with Korean women get a far better response then Western women with Korean men.

In fact, the bias vs Korean men in here is rampant. It rears up its ugly head on a regular basis and when countered by someone is simply defended as an "opinion".

All this being said, it is true that some western women can be quite judgemental about a western guy who is with a Korean woman. But, that phenomenon, while equally distasteful is not as widely spread.

Just a side note: The posters on this board may hold that double standard but I think it is accurate to say that the expat community in general has some major issues with cross-cultural relationships. Korean strangers are, 95% of the time more accepting and cool about my relationship with my wife than the foreigners who have taken up, usually, temporary residence here. You wouldn't believe the looks and comments we have gotten over the years.

It's not easy but we all find a way of dealing with the pressures of culture, family, public opinion, and everyday relationship issues.

I guess what I'm saying is that all of us in these relationships made conscious decisions to commit ourselves to the many facets of culture, language, family, and the rest. I'm sure that Polychronic Time Girl wouldn't have married her husband if she didn't think that she could handle all of the pressures of that relationship. PTG, congratulations on your marriage... I saw your photo already and you looked really nice in your hanbok and you seemed to have a very happy glow about you (of course!).
