i find them amusing and different. just came out with their 2nd album (more reggae like). tons of weed references and 420 in it.

lyrics such as
"Pass Da Super Skunk Pass it over"
"Korean Reggae Dancehall Checker No.1 Heavy"

Dude, I was gonna start a thread about these guys! I would have called it, "Call the cultural police, somebody's commited theft!" (they seem to really think they are jamaican)

Doesn't Stonyskunk sound like one of those fake weed alternatives that you find in the back of high times?

How did they shoot that video in Jamaica without getting beat up?

They wear the traditional colors of Rastafari which are red, gold, and green. They're meant to symbolize the blood, money, and land that was stolen from the African peoples through slavery and colonialization. Umm...i have no further comment on that.

Is one named Stony and the other one Skunk?

well, i'm sure in jamaica...money talks...so flash some green, smoke some green, and you're in.

i dunno how they got the name stony skunk (since their names aren't that).

don't really like the songs on the album, but since everyone here seems to complain about how all korean pop is the same (dress, sound, looks etc), i found this new style different and interesting.

yeah. I'd love to have seen the conversations between the Korean production team and the Jamaican people. I can't even understand when Jamaican people talk.

I remember hearing some Korean rap and thinking, "they could probably do that dancehall reggae chanting stuff pretty well." both Korean and that kind of singing seem to come from deep in the throat. and yeah, they do do it well. It's just the cultural appropriation that I have a problem with. but anything that introduces Koreans to different music is a good thing, i suppose.

reggae! raggamuffin! haha, yeah that junk is catchy.

and I have a message for Mr. Skunk Park: please put your shirt on all the way. It know its hot out, but please.

DJ sniper does the best work on their first one. Honestly, when I saw this the first time I could barely suppress my hysterical laughter. How can they even have an album where they mention weed, let alone pretend to be rastafari in a country that is sadly bereft of weed? I shudder to think what would happen to Korean society if they "went all the way" with weed like they do with drinking, smoking, and unprotected sex. Stoner ajoshis would be laffriot tho'.

(sigh) This is the kind of subject that makes me miss Oregon.

Does anyone else think Koreans look absurd when they try to be something they're not? Sometimes you see guys (such as in Kangnam) act like "hiphop" types, with the clothes and even the American slang (though they probably do not speak English worth a damn). It looks pretentious and just plain wrong. It looks about as normal as seeing white and black dudes on TV commercials "speaking" Korean (dubbed over)

I turned on the TV at 7.20am to see these guys on MTV -- yeah, they were pretty cra.ppy! Had to laugh out loud at how ridiculous they looked and cringed at how bad they sounded!
