I got the worst case of food poisoning I think I have ever had (even worse than in China) this weekend on a class trip to Gangwon. I am still recovering and while I generally love Korean food, I can't stomach the thought of Korean food for dinner.

So... where is the best sandwich to be had in Shinchon? I have eaten the paninis at A Twosome Place before and while they were okay, I wasn't all that impressed.

Twosome place is the best place I know in Sinchon- sorry!

You're not far from Jenny's Cafe though, it's in Hongdae but towards the Sinchon end- on the same road as the university, kind of opposite the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

What did you eat that made you so sick?

You know, I'm really not sure. We had one of those traditional Korean meal spreads going on, and it could have been any one of the 15 or so shared dishes that made me sick. Most likely it was one of the seafood dishes...

So, what kind of stuff does Jenny's cafe have? If I hop on the subway to Hongdae how do I find it from there? (My mouth is watering at the thought of a good sandwich, I have hardly eaten in two days).

from the subway take exit 6, turn left at the top of the stairs so you're walking with KFC on one side, Pascucci on the other, then take your next right to walk past a load of neon-lit DVD bangs, a dalk galbi restaurant, cosmetics shop and Vietnamese restaurant until you get to the junction.

Turn left there and head up the hill- at the top of the hill is a McDonalds on the right hand side, you want to go left (the gates of Hong-ik uni are just ahead).
Walk down that street past "Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf", and a shop with a bunch of second hand magazines outside- Jennie's is on the other side of the road, pretty much opposite the magazine place (or maybe a bit further down).

Jennie's make their own bread for the sandwiches, have good soup and ace deserts. Selection of wine, tea, coffee- it's a nice little independent hangout place.

If you've gone all the way there you might want to check out Purple Records which is close by, one of the best CD selections in Seoul- it's just on the opposite side of the road, near the magazine place.

I wouldn't recommend it if you're still feeble from the food poisoning, but when you're feeling better you can walk from that area back to Sinchon through the backstreets, cutting across the disused(?) train tracks. It's an interesting walk and would probably take a similar time to trekking back to the subway station.

(man I miss living in Hongdae)

Thanks! I'll give it a try. I'm feeling much better now, but a sandwich still sounds like heaven.
