im about to order some clothes from america via the internet. i read that anything over 150,000 Won will be charged/taxed. my total is about 230,000 won. wouldnt it make sense to place 2 seperate orders, dividing the costs and avoiding charges? Are clothes taxed regardless of the total amount? Thank you. |

Have those clothes sent to your mother, father, aunt, uncle or whatever. get them to cut out all the labels. Get them washed (or at least have them looking like they've been worn once or twice). Then have them sent over as used personal effects. Marked as gift. Then you don't have to pay tax. |

Shopping On the Internet
It can be quiet convenient and practical to buy goods over the Internet. In some cases, the Internet is the only place you can purchase the goods of your special need.
Before shopping online, it is important to note that the advertised price on the seller's web-site is not always the same as the total price that you might end up paying. It is because if the total value of the goods (the purchase price plus freight and insurance) exceeds 150,000 Korean won (about US$ 120), you need to pay Customs duties and taxes.
For the most industrial products, you pay probably8% Customs duty and 10 % VAT. However, some goods are liable to special excise taxes & other taxes. For all the details of Customs duty and tax rates applicable, please refer to the Duties and Taxes in Korea of this web-site or Simplified Duty Rate at Simplified Clearance.
In paying Customs duties and taxes, you may go through other governmental procedures, depending on the goods purchased. The most likely items falling into this category are food, alcohol, pets, medicine, firearms & dangerous articles, pornography and cars. For details, please read more about on importing individual items.

Over 150.000 clothes taxed 20%. Went through it four months ago. If you want to put them into two seperate orders, you will have to add up the costs and see if it is worth it. |
